Thoughts on Walking Loosed from Chains with Jesus Changing You

by Marijo Phelps
10/12/2010 / Devotionals

Sometimes we "wart" and worry and spin our wheels trying to make those changes come into our lives. Somewhere in there we see lights coming on. If we can manage to "let go and let God" He is more than able to make those much needed changes in us and our circumstances.

Today is my birthday and I am 36 years old in our Jesus. It was 36 years ago today that I cried out to the God I wasn't even sure existed. I asked Him to forgive me for the many times I had made choices that broke His heart. He met me at that point of my surrender and had not left me since. Oh, what an incredible time I have had since walking unbound in His love.

Do I need occasional reminders of who is in charge? Yes and He is always faithful to whisper to my heart:

You strive to change yourself and chug along under your own steam. Those areas where I wish, your focus will become clear.

Leave your hand in mine, relax and follow. You get so bound up in the complexity of each and every move that you weave a net and ensnare yourself.

I will lead you. Relax, follow and do that which "seemeth" good.

You don't see the total picture nor do you see very clearly. You're growing in my love and my love grows in you. I give you my peace. Look up. Live in Jesus as Jesus lives in you.

Your freedom has already been paid for. Walk in it and know that you are loved/safe/saved and sealed in my Son.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, forgive me my blindness and toddlerish "I want to do it myself" attitude help me to walk each step in that incredible freedom that you have paid for, in FULL. AMEN

In Returning

In returning,
Let the old impurities
Become dross to be skimmed off
By Your quick, gentle hand.

In returning,
Let me be dealt with
In Your love,
That I don't deserve.

In returning,
I give You only that
Which is mine to give
Yet even those You've given to me.

In returning, I surrender:
My will,
My life,
My all
To the One who made me,
My Jesus!
