When the 'p' in Poverty actually stands for Prosperity

by beatrice ofwona

Poverty may have been caused by a generational curse, may be due to a choice, may have been sustained through a mindset or may be due to evil. We also know that all ills are rooted in evil. It is also a fact that when one is extremely poor, his or her judgment may be somewhat impaired about a myriad of issues and especially if it is to the extent of seeing what is sinful as not being that bad at all! In some poverty stricken situations, we have seen mothers for instance, who are driven to stealing, shoplifting or staying in abusive relationships in order to fend for their children. We have heard of others still who defile their bodies in prostitution in an attempt to make money. Sadly, most people do not or simply refuse to comprehend the extent of their sinning or of what evil they have introduced into their lives. What is evil is evil and especially because it goes contrary to what God requires of us.

What we need to understand is that we do not need money in order to prosper; what we need are ideas and concepts to develop that which we have been fitted with. Each and every one of us is has hundreds of these and they are awaiting discovery. You may however need the anointing that destroys poverty and feelings of inadequacy in order to welcome prosperity, well being and belief in yourself.

Firstly is the anointing for favor; this will open doors for you without your having to push against them. There will be no delays in your dealings or transactions and things will generally run smoothly for you as others struggle through queues, bureaucracies and protocol. In some instances, you will even have a choice to make about the man or woman you want to get married to because you will have more than one to pick from.

Secondly is the anointing for diligence because God will always bless the works of your hands. Hard work and diligence will earn you favor and recognition from God. Proverbs 22:29 says,' do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men'. A lazy man will never come out of poverty; he will languish there for the rest of his life. He may want to live a good life but be unwilling to work hard for it. He may have a yearning for a king's life but have absolutely no desire or drive to work yet we have aged people who have never stopped engaging themselves in some form of activity or the other. Unfortunately the younger generation do not seem to understand nor appreciate the ethos of work anymore, they do not even understand the fact that diligence brings promotion; they prefer the 'quick-fix' kind of life.

Our God is a rewarder. In the book of 1Kings 11:29-49 we see Him sending the prophet Ahijah to declare that He would give Jeroboam the 10 tribes of Israel and leave only one for Solomon because of the latter's disobedience. God looks for workers not sympathizers. Age does not matter to Him. He blessed David as a young man for kingship. David may not have known that God was watching him as he tended to and protected his sheep but God saw how he endangered his own life to keep them alive. God was satisfied with what He saw, a leader. He may not have been as tall as his brothers, but he was the hardworking man that God wanted to anoint.
Thirdly is the anointing for connection. In John 1:40-42 we see Andrew bringing his brother Simon to meet Jesus. 'We have found the Messiah', he says. Andrew was apparently the first to see Jesus and he connected his brother to Christ. When Christ saw Simon, he called him Cephas which stands for stability. In John 1:45-49 we see Phillip also bringing the doubting Nathaniel to Christ. 'We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law', a man of whom the former said 'Can anything good come out of Nazareth? He lived to eat his words.

You too can be connected to your destiny by the very people around you. Your life can change in the split of a second because today is all you need to make a difference.

God is waiting for you to believe and have the right frame of mind. Most of us, however, are suspicious of everything including God. We live our lives without trusting anyone and do not even realize that networking with others can change the story of our lives. It took the Egyptians for Joseph's destiny to be fulfilled and then for him to be restored to his family. In 2Kings 5 , it takes a believing servant girl to connect Naaman to his healing through the prophet Elisha. For you and your prosperity, you may just need to be connected through that one person that you have never given the time of day or that stranger quietly seated next to you in a bus.

Every event in our lives has a season as Ecclesiastes chapter 3 declares. But there are those amongst us who choose to languish in one season. of lack and poverty. What you should be asking yourself is this: 'is the poverty and lack that you are experiencing as a result of a curse that may be generational, a mindset that you may be having, a poor choice that you once made or maybe continuing to make or is it due to the evil that has found its way into your life? And once you know where it is all oozing from, what are you doing to fight it? You are a child of God, a saint! You are well armed. Put on your armory and fight it!
