Do You Have Tummy Trouble When You Try to REST in the Lord?

by Marijo Phelps
12/20/2010 / Devotionals

Oh, no, it is the trust and patience issues again only this time they are rolled into one scenario. Rest in the Lord. Trust Him with all your circumstances and trust His timing to be right on. I know I am not doing a very good job of this when I feel my stomach churning and getting those knots in it.

Yes, over the years I have gotten much better at this. I have seen God's faithfulness and perfect timing over and over. It I had grabbed control as we tend to want to do hindsight shows me how big of a disaster this would have been. SO, not because I immediately became patient but because I have learned more to trust in my Jesus and His plans can I write about this today. I can remember not too long ago when His Holy Spirit whispered to the ears of my heart:

Child, I see your tummy in knots yet you know your Father is faithful you have trouble RESTING. Is it so difficult, to lean back and be held by my everlasting arms? I will uphold you with my victorious right hand in righteousness. Can that but give you a mollified vision of peace? I really care. I really have a plan. I really love.. YOU. Selah. Pause and think calmly about that.

The following scriptures help to shine light on God's faithfulness, our resting place, and His right hand, not ours. They help us to focus on how big and capable our Lord is and, by contrast, see once again how puny our efforts are.

Oh, yes, we can have the best intentions in the world but we need to turn loose to our Lord who has the wisdom and love to walk us through.

Isaiah 38:19
The living, the livingthey praise you, as I am doing today; fathers tell their children about your faithfulness. (NIV)

Isaiah 28:12
to whom he said, "This is the resting place, let the weary rest"; and, "This is the place of repose" but they would not listen. (NIV)

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, 'Destroy him!' (NIV)

Exodus 15:6
"Your right hand, O LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy. (NIV)

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (NIV)

Prayer: Thank You dear God, for your promises of faithfulness and of your arms to hold us tight. You go before us and destroy our enemies and you promise to uphold us. Why should we fear? Why should we be afraid. You have proved your faithfulness over and over and we do lift our voices in praise to you who are, indeed, ABLE!!! AMEN
