The Revelation Of Christ

by beatrice ofwona

Luke 4:18- 'The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor'.

We can say anything, preach or even teach the word of God but if we do not have the Spirit of the Lord, we are doing nothing; we have no revelation. John 4: 24-'God is Spirit and His worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth'. It is easy to carry the Bible but hard to carry the anointing. Yet it is this very anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage. In John4 the Samaritan woman may have thought that Jesus would be yet another possible conquest but Christ opened her eyes to the truth; that he could only be her spiritual partner. She starts by calling him Sir but then the truth dawns on her that it is the Messiah in whose presence she stands; suddenly she has a testimony. Jesus Christ opens the doors of revelation and of life through the Holy Spirit. For this to happen however, we must have a relationship with him. Sometimes we walk with him when things are hard for us and we are looking for breakthroughs. But as soon as he answers our prayers, we forget about him. This is a relationship that is false and it is no wonder that it breaks. But if we engage with him honestly, our relationship with him can never be broken. Through thick and thin, we will hang onto him; through good times we will remember to thank him. Because God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in him (Colossians 1:19).

Who then is Christ to you -a Master, a Rabbi or a teacher? We have to come to a place of revelation and walk into it. In Mathew 16:13-17 Simon Peter confesses that Jesus is the Son of the living God and Christ declares that this could only have been revealed to him by God and not by man.

The Samaritan lady was in observation and sooner or later it was revealed to her who really Christ was. John 4:39-42 tells us that many of the Samaritans from the town believed in him because of her testimony.

"He told me everything I ever did", she said.

Later on they welcomed Christ to stay with them for a while and he did, for two days. And because of his words, many more became believers.

In verse 42 they say to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this really is the Savior of the world". Jesus Christ, the Messiah, had revealed himself to them. When we walk with him, a revelation of who he really is becomes our portion.

Consequently however, we must hence forth not just know the Word but we must live the Word. Transformation gets us to the point where we live the Word. We must be transformed because revelation comes by living in Christ and striving for Christ-likeness. In revelation we are powerful and have the full amour to fight the enemy. But we must also be willing to drink of Christ's cup; be hated and rejected as he was. Paul aptly put it that if you do not know Christ in the fellowship of his suffering, then you will never know him in the glory of his majesty

But in most cases we do not even get this; we do not understand the power that we wield when we are in Christ. The prodigal son had full knowledge of what he had but not full revelation of what he could possess. He therefore squandered all that he had in a foolish way. Similarly, we may have the whole Bible at our disposal yet squander it by foolish living in disobedience of God's teachings. This is like prostituting the bible to suit our interests; that we rationalize what we are doing outside God's precepts knowing well that we are sinning yet continuing to do so anyway to serve our own interests. We deliberately misunderstand it to box it into our own whims.

We can have churches but still squander our inheritance because of who we have become in our demands. Yet when we leave our Father's house we disconnect from His glory. We lose the inheritance which was revelation and bibles based and make it physical due to our carnality. When we live in revelation, we say 'make me' but in the physical we say 'give me'; our prayers therefore focus on what we want not on what God wants of us. Like the prodigal son who even considered living in a pig sty, we lose sight of our inheritance. That is what losing sight of revelation does to us.

In Mathew 13 our Lord gave us the parable of the sower. When a farmer sows his seed, he does so by faith for it must go into the ground and die in order to bring forth fruit. We too are children of the soil and must be willing to die. Die to the self. As long as the seed is in the ground, God will give it life. In order to birth a revelation, we must die. For us to get the anointing, we must be willing to die. Die to our desires and our selves.

A leader's life is not easy because he must have a heart for the people. Like Christ he must walk in the crowd and not outside it. With revelation one develops this heart for the people. But everyone has a purpose in this life whether they are in leadership positions or not. Being in Christ helps us know in which direction we should be moving. King David will always be remembered for being a man after God's own heart amongst many other things that he achieved. But eventually, he too died. Acts 13:36 says 'For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep....' People die but legacies live on.

We must each know the purpose of our calling. If we do not, we may abuse it. Myles Munroe says 'If purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. We must be willing to live our purpose and to face the giants that come along the way. This is why we need Christ's revelation, to put us in the right track of our lives.

But first we need to have the right understanding of who Jesus Christ really is. The Jews turned him into a religion; the Romans into an empire, the Greek into philosophy, the Europeans into a culture and the Africans into a tradition. We need to have a proper understanding of who Jesus Christ really is and this only comes by revelation.

Be like him in order to know him. Live the commandments, love your neighbor as yourself and be a servant of God with humility in your service. Then go out into the world and fulfill the great commission-connect with the people you reach out to. But remember that a seed must die to bring forth fruit. You must die to yourself, your pride or your preferences and be like those you connect with. Stoop if you must. Paul himself tells us how he had to be everything in order to bring in everyone into the kingdom. God has given you a mandate to serve him. Contend for the faith that was given to the saints (Jude 3).

Just do it.
