A lobster fleet
licks its way across
Northumberland Strait
like smudges
under an Atlantic sky
crew bragging too soon,
made-in-China
mackinaws moist
in morning dew,
stench of herring bait
a sure lure:
slatted traps parading
as footprints on ocean's
bottom, a home
for canners & markets
protruding eyes,
claws groping.
