Out of the Ground

by Yvette Nietzen
3/18/2007 / Devotionals

Genesis 2:19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. (NKJ)

While reading through Genesis, I came across this verse that I have read probably a dozen times. Reading it this time was different, as I received a picture which I would like to share with you.

I saw a Father and son relationship here. I saw God, making all these animals out of the dust, and Adam watching in excitement. I then saw the Lord bring these animals to Adam, and then Adam naming the animals. I saw fun, laughter, joy, anticipation at what the next animal would look like, and anticipation on part of the Lord to see what name Adam would place on the animal. I saw love. I saw God stretching Adams creativity. I saw Adam in authority over the animals.

As parents, how many times have you played with your child on the living room floor with toy cars, dinosaurs, building blocks, or with your daughter's tea set and reading books? When a parent does that, they are enjoying spending time with their children. There are no demands, no expectations of performing, but just enjoying each other's company and being carefree.

Do you know that God desires that fellowship with us? Have you ever stopped to think that you can come to the Lord and just fellowship and thank Him for all the wonderful things that He has done in your life?

We can approach God as his child, and spend time in His presence with no demands, but with love. We have a very loving father. Yes, Adam lost that relationship, but Jesus redeemed it for us on the cross.

Let us make good use of what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross, and spend time with our heavenly Father in loving fellowship.
