Prayer Drop-Off Window

by PamFord Davis
4/12/2011 / Devotionals

Pharmacy management desires efficient service. They understand our frustration when waiting in long lines for prescribed medications. To start with, we are there because we usually have a medical problem, or there as the middle- man for another loved one. The drug store is not among our local spots of interest.

The layout of most pharmacies is quite impressive. We see signs over openings directing us to three departments. drop off, consultations and pick-up. Therefore, if I need my doctor's prescription filled or refilled, I simply take it to the drop off window and I am free to leave. On the other hand, if I have questions the pharmacist will address them at the consultation area. Pick-up is the end of the line completing my transaction.

Do I view my prayer time in such a methodical process? Do I selfishly believe I can just drop off a list of requests for God to fill? Do I dread taking the extra time to consult him? When I receive answers to prayers, do I go on my merry way without a backward glance?

The Psalmist lived a life of prayer. "I wake up early in the morning and cry out. I trust your word. I stay awake all night so I can think about your promises. Listen to me because of your love (Psalm 119:147-148a NCV)." That is a prayer prescription based on fulfilled promises. His writing is legible and the Holy Spirit fills all requests of the Father. Take as needed; the prescription never runs out!
