Behind a winter fort, cardboard
swords twirl above
young heads. Others prepare
wallops of snow,
braver ones readying for
a frontal assault,
as did King Arthur's stalwart
men once charge enemy forces--
except today it's
children in a parking lot
mimicking the past.
An old knight like Grandpa
remembers his youth
from similar round table days. Now
rooming at the Nursing Home,
his new fortress. The only
snowballs flung in faraway dreams,
a steed replaced by
twirling wheels from an old
wheelchair. Memories linger as he
remembers those rushing
feet, swords swirling
snow hurling, and shouting:
"Attaaack!"
