Seeing God's Vision

by Steve Countryman
6/10/2011 / Christian Living

As I started praying I asked God to give us His vision. The ability to see beyond ourselves, the natural, the daily and see what God sees in the supernatural. I asked God to help us, His children, to get our eyes off of ourselves, our problems, our lives and to see beyond our little finite world. What God showed me was not what I was expecting.

One day as I was traveling to church praying this prayer it had snowed again but only about three inches. The last snow storm was still fresh on my mind. The last storm dumped about two feet of snow on top of about six inches of previous snow. While plowing my one hundred eighty five foot driveway I got stuck but good. If you have ever lived in snow country or had the pleasure to drive in heavy snow conditions you may know what it is like to get stuck in it. I have found that getting stuck in snow isn't good. Getting stuck in snow with a snow plow is much worse. That thought quickly came to mind as I was driving having just plowed my driveway once again.

God shared with me some basic but powerful truths. Just as you purposely follow a large county plow truck down the road during a heavy snow storm, we are to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Driving in a white-out you are lucky to see ten feet in front of your vehicle. So once you get the chance to follow a snow plow you do so eagerly. The Holy Spirit leads the way. You keep your eyes on that truck and its lights flashing in front of you. You keep your eyes on the Holy Spirit like a safety beacon guiding your path along dangerous snowy and icy roads. The Holy Spirit makes available to you all nine special gifts of the Holy Spirit for you to utilize. The gifts are like things that you would need to travel in a heavy snow storm four wheel drive vehicle, lights front and back, shovels, a strong motor, good heater inside, working windshield wipers, window defroster and good snow tires. All of these things are necessary to keep you from getting stuck or lost in a snow storm. Without those gifts/tools you quickly get stuck and are dependant on others to help you. While you are stuck you are at the mercy of the snow storm and available to be attacked. Just as in life if the enemy can get you to get your eyes off of God and the Holy Spirit then you are just moments away from getting stuck in sin but good.

So I asked God how do you move in the snow storm without the help from the Holy Spirit? How do you see God's vision without God's help. The answer is you don't! 1Corinthians 12:7-11 7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. To get God's vision for you to see beyond your natural life you need to allow the Holy Spirit to lead you along His paths of righteousness and His tools/gifts for you to utilize daily to help you navigate through life's daily snow storms.

So my prayer is that God will give all of us the ability to utilize all the gifts of the Holy Spirit especially the gifts of discernment (distinguishing between spirits) and prophecy to help all of us to declare His Word and will over those we come in contact with everyday. For we are the children of the Most High God! We are His representatives, His ambassadors, His witnesses of and for God's kingdom here on earth. Make God visible to others by allowing the moving of the Holy Spirit in and through you every day. May your words carry the power and authority of Jesus Christ, may your actions align and agree with God's Word and may your daily lives be the daily witness of God's love here on earth to others every where you go. It is time to stand!
