Whitecaps are pretenders
to the throne as
royal mountain tops
shuffle heraldic
sweeps against the shore
overturning clams, burnishing
stone, driftwood
surfing at high tide.
Designer swimsuits decorate
bathers on spreading
towels, sizzling
beach a natural hazard
boardwalk drums
from an avalanche of feet,
visitors offered ocean's view
a sailboat, some seagulls, water
skiing; a hat rolling
across the sand---constant
as snapshots in action.
