LEN'S LINES --- A Little Religion On A Positive Note By Len Granger

Remembering Thanksgiving Day==A Day Of Giving

Once a year we have set aside a day, for a national holiday of giving thanks to our Lord, for all the wonderful things he has provided us in the previous year. We gather together with relatives and friends for a meal to remember with all the turkey and trimmings. A prayer is offered up to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as he gives us everything for our everyday needs.

As we have concern for our fellow man and give to him our abundance, as we are able, a good feeling comes over us . Love our neighbor as our brother has been the policy of all Christians and our wonderful nation is there helping others in this world in a loving manner time and time again.

We read in the Bible, II Corinthians 9 verses 7 and 8; "So let each one give as he proposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."

My widow sister in law, who helps me on the farm and is my Christian companion, said her aged almost 90 years young mother would like a mincemeat pie for Thanksgiving. Being of English ancestry, she would once before going home with the Lord, like to again taste a mincemeat pie. We visited or called every large grocery store, bakery and talked to friends and was given the same answer. Mincemeat pie is not a good selling item in the area so we decided a couple years ago to eliminate it from available special order pies. However, in Dixon we were told a new specialty cafe, called the "Firehouse Bistro" might help us. We went there but the sign on the door said. "Closed For Remodeling". The owner saw us and opened the door and said they will be open for business later in the week. I said you are our last resort and we hope you might be able to bake us two mincemeat pies, but see you are all torn up remodeling. He asked how soon we needed them and they would sure like to help us. So today, two days later. we became the first specialty home baked pie customers with two beautiful English Mincemeat Pies. The owner even told us the history about the English Mincemeat Pie he had researched. There is no meat in them today, but years ago in England, wild game, Moose or Deer was a part of the pie. For Thanksgiving Day, we delivered the pies out of town today, the aged mother of my relative had tears in her eyes.

Our small town of Dixon has some wonderful merchants and we pray for the success of this creative comfort food cafe and specialty bakery called the "Firehouse Bistro". Our Thanksgiving Day will long be remembered by the caring cafe owners who went out of their way to make us a mincemeat pie, a real Christian act of giving.

We pray you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and we will all be in the church of our choice praising and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless America
