The Virus of Sin

A few years ago, my computer was invaded by a virus. That virus, while a seemingly small, simple thing, was the source of several serious problems with my computer. It caused programs to close prematurely, made internet navigation and email retrieval terribly slow, and resulted in freeze-ups of my system at the most inopportune moments. All of that, caused by one virus. However, once that bug was "squashed" by an anti-viral program, everything returned to normal.

Sin is much the same. In Mark 2:17, Jesus compared the human state of sinfulness with being sick, and Romans 3:23 tells us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." This "virus" called sin can cause all manner of complications. It can result in loneliness, as some wonder why no one seems to love or care for them. In others, it may give rise to crippling guilt over something that was done long ago, for which they can't stop punishing themselves. Sin may even cause some people to question their worth, as they can find no real purpose in life. Just like the computer virus, sin leads to several serious problems, and none so grave as eternity separated from God.

But there is good news! Jesus Christ is the "anti-viral program" for sin! He cures loneliness by promising that He is always with those who have trusted Him as savior (Matthew 28:20). He eliminates guilt by reminding us that He has paid for our sins, and made a way for us to possess His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). And, He gives us purpose by making us His people, and giving us the task of telling others of the hope found in Him (1 Peter 2:9).

Jesus can be YOUR cure, if you will believe in Him as your Savior and Lord.
