Prayer is Powerful

Each day as Christians, when we offer up prayers to our loving and gracious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are using the most power tool the Lord has given us. We may not get the answer right then we are asking the Lord to provide but he says in the Bible, Matthew 21 verse 22. " And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

Over the past couple years, I have been visiting a senior medical home for persons recovering from various operations, and take my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels to greet them. After a few times of visiting patients, I ask if they attend church and would like to pray? One aged lady, who said she was told that before she could go back to her home might be up to another month, said I would like to pray but do not know how. She said after attending church all her life, she had others in the church pray for her when she wanted to ask the Lord for something. I told her it was just like you and I talking, so we prayed that the Lord would lay his hand on her, if it was his will, and bless her with his healing power. The next week, when I went to visit the senior home, the kind Christian lady was gone. The nurses said, she even surprised the doctors with her quick recovery and her son picked her up to go home yesterday.

We get answers to this column about the Power of Prayer from readers and this touching letter was received from a Christian lady in Florida.

Here is a true story which occurred approximately 20 years ago about 1991.

I was teaching school at Springhead Elementary School in Plant City , FL at the time.
Each day on my way home to our "farm" of ten acres in the country, I took highway 39.
and drove north out of the city to the country. Highway 39 divides a grave yard with graves
on the right and left side of the highway.
It was about 4:30 pm and the sky was over cast.
As I drove though the grave yard portion of the highway I could see a man
standing with his back to the highway and leaning over a tomb stone. I could not
make out who was but was impressed to pray immediately for him.
The remaining 5 miles of my trip I prayed for this stranger that God would send
someone to talk to him to minister to him.

The next afternoon my son, John came to our house. He told us that his wife
had left him and taken their son. He then told me that he had gone to the grave yard
the day before contemplating suicide. He said that as he was leaning over a tomb
stone a man dressed in black and carrying a Bible called out to him and visited
with him for a long time and read Scriptures with him. And then as quickly as he
had come he disappeared.

When I asked the time he said about 4:30.

I have no idea if is was an angel that God used to answer this prayer or if it was
a human that God moved to minister to my son, it really makes no difference.
The point is that God answers prayer and we as His children should always pray
for strangers along the highway. It may even be one of our loved ones.

We as Christians see prayer answered in our lives daily, if we only pray in faith and trust our Lord Jesus Christ to answer. Trust this Sunday we will all be singing and worshiping our Lord in the church of our choice. God Bless America
