ARE YOU CASTING OR KEEEPING ?

by mark baker
4/11/2007 / Christian Living

1Pe.5:5-7:
"Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.

If we could only get a revelation of the Love that God has for us, and truly understand in our innermost being how much He cares for us, then I believe it will become easy to wholly and completely trust Him. It is hard to trust someone you don't know very well.

One of the best ways to get to know Him is through His Word. His Word is His revelation of Himself.

Let's look at what Peter is saying in our opening text.

A. Cloth yourself in all humility, this means humbleness of mind. We might say it in another way. Do not be sufficient in our own right, but let our sufficiency be in God, through Jesus Christ. Then it goes on to expound on this by adding, God opposes the proud. I don't want God opposing me, do you?

B. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. True humility will esteem the Word of God over our own problems! We will not put our problems first, but will put God's Word first place in every situation. Don't meditate on the problem, but meditate on the problem solver. He delights in taking care of His Children. He loves to give Good gifts to His children.

Matthew 7:11:
"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"

C. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.
Our anxieties or cares press down on us sometimes, We must cast them on the Lord, for he cares for us. When I read this verse I am reminded of a documentary I saw where it showed local fishermen casting their fishing nets, they would gather their nets up and sling the nets as far as they could. This would take some considerable effort on their part, but the rewards would be a harvest of fish. The reward was well worth the effort. In a like manner, we can do this with the anxieties or cares of this world, whether it is a family problem, a work problem, or a financial problem, what ever the problem, if God tells us to cast our cares on Him, then we can! He wouldn't be a just God if He told us to do something and didn't give us the ability to follow through with it, God is just! He has our best interests at the center of His heart, when we cast our care on Him, then He can manifest His love toward us.
The rewards won't be a net full of fish, but peace of mind and spirit, and our needs supplied as well. Glory to God!!!!!

However this requires some effort on our part, we have to do the casting.
God doesn't do this for us. He is telling us to do it, and we can.

Ph.4;19:
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

Say it out loud, I cast my cares on you Father. I love you, and I know you love me, and will supply my every need. I give you thanks, and praise Your holy Name.

We must take time to Praise Him, God inhabits the praises of His people.
Speaking out loud will release your faith, and give God glory!

Praise Him with thanksgiving, and quit grumbling and complaining like the children of Israel did in the desert. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones to make it out of the desert and into the promised land. They were the only ones who put their trust in God. We should let this be a lesson to us. The rewards are great for those who put their trust in the Lord.
God is faithful, but we have a part to play, and must be diligent in it.

Pr.3:3-6:
"Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

We have to put mercy and truth around our neck and write them on our heart.
His Word says this will cause us to find favor and understanding.
We need to totally and completely trust in Him, This is sometimes easier to tell people to do than to actually do. When you meditate in, and confess his Word, it starts taking root in your spirit. Then the Bible says, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. What we put into our heart will come out, and that's when the will of God can be manifested in our lives and the lives of others as well.

We must acknowledge Him in all our ways, and then He shall direct our path.

Acknowledgement is to recognize as a fact, admit that something is true. It also means to regard or to have respect, to understand.
Vs.5 says to lean not to our own understanding.

He will give us insight and His understanding when we acknowledge Him. Glory to God!

We should acknowledge Him as our savior, our redeemer, our healer, our God who is always with us. He said He will never leave us or forsake us, we can and should take great comfort in that. He's the all sufficient one, the God who is more than enough, He's the supplier to our every need!

Praise His Name and acknowledge Him as the supplier to your every need,
And don't back down from it, give Him the praise and watch Him work strong on your behalf. Put Him to the test, prove that His Word is true.

If you want to know for sure that you are a child of God then pray this prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, "and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out." (Jn.6:37), So I know You won't cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, "whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'' (Ro. 10:13).
I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation." (Ro.10:9,10).
I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, " with the heart one believes to righteousness" and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21),
And I am saved! Thank You, Lord!
I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God!

Glory to God!!!! Amen.

I was raised Catholic, and was born again at the age of 17. I received God's call into ministry at the age of 19 and began to prepare for ministry. I graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1979. The Lord has called me to teach. My desire is to help all that are seeking the truth to come into a deeper understanding of what God has done for us through Christ Jesus. Olive Branch Ministries is an outgrowth of that desire.
