An Experience on a Couch

Friends when God starts to teach us, we are changed forever - Praise be His Holy Name. I would like to share an experience which could have been challenging, but instead was a blessing.

Due to some unexpected reason, I did not have a bed to sleep on last night and had to sleep on my couch. I tried to sleep on it before, but never managed, it's made of firm leather and not wide enough to turn around. I started to be apprehensive of the night of unrest before me

Suddenly, I decided to look at this challenge in a new way and not dread the situation. A friend of mine had shared her difficulties of having no home for six months and told me of her time living in her car. I thought of her struggles and it made me not grumble and be grateful for my home and couch.

Then I remembered if I was on a plane sitting in the narrow seats for umpteen hours, how I would long for a couch like this to have a lie down. Suddenly this couch became a place of refuge instead of one of torment. During the times when I could not turn around properly, I prayed to God to ease the back of the couch so that it gave me a bit of extra space.

Surprisingly I slept well and my couch became a friend in time of need. I woke up with a sore neck but a good frame of mind.

Instead of hating the situation, think of others who are in a worse situation than you and embrace what is offered rather than reject it. You will be surprised how a new mindset will make things so much easier for you.
