AN ANGRY GOD

by Duane Huffstutler

Ex 4:14a 14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, (KJV)

Can God become angry? The Bible says that God is Love, how can he be a God of Love and be a God of Anger? But you say he only got angry in the Old Testament he is a God of Love in the New Testament. So you say that God changes my Bible states that God never Changes Heb 13:8 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever. (KJV) So if Jesus Christ and the Father are one how can Jesus Christ be the same yesterday, today and forever and God change from the Old Testament to the New Testament? If we can settle on the fact that God gets angry let's find out what makes God angry.
Since we live in the dispensation of Grace we can do anything and get away with ittrue or false? You may get away with it for now but when it comes time to stand before Christ we will have to answer for it. In my studies I have found 9 items in the Old Testament that made God angry. These 9 things are 1. Excuses. 2. Complaining. 3. Attacking the Man of God. 4. Disobedience. 5. Worshiping Idols. 6. Untruthfulness. 7. Disbelief. 8. Rebellion. 9. Blasphemy. So if God got angry about these things what did he do about it? For excuses Moses was replaced as the High Priest for the children of Israel. For complaining many of the children of Israel died. For attacking the Man of God Miriam was cursed with Leprosy until Moses interceded and then she had to live with it for 7 days. Korah, Dathan and Abiram and their families and all that belonged to them was swallowed up by the ground. For disobedience they were given a chance to turn around if they did the curse was lifted if not they were cursed. When Israel refused to go into Canaan everyone over the age of 20 died in the wilderness. Achan took the forbidden items and died along with his family. King David took a census of Israel when God said not to and 70,000 men died. Uzza touched the Ark of the Covenant after knowing all his life that only the Priests could touch the rods to carry the Ark and he died on the spot. For worshipping Idols Israel is sent into slavery and the leaders of each movement into slavery died. Ephraim lied and was deceitful and was cursed which was never lifted from him. For disbelief God tried to convince Israel that He was alive and would take care of them, disbelief usually turned into Idol worship. For Rebellion they were cursed. 1Samuel 15:23 God rejects Saul for his disobedience 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. For Blasphemy they were destroyed. Isaiah 3:8 8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory. (KJV)
How many of us when God asks us to do something have at least one excuse? Or if we have to go through something bad, do we start complaining? I could keep asking questions but each of us must examine ourselves. We must determine where we will stand when we stand before the Lord, will we have to answer for any of the things that make God angry.
Yes God does get angry but through his Love he tries to take care of us and to get us to turn away from the things that make him angry. If we will listen then we will not have to worry about being on the receiving side of his anger. If we rebel against the Holy Spirit moving in us and talking to us then we will have to answer to God for our actions and it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of and angry God. Where will you fall, into the hands of an angry God or into the hands of a Loving God? The choice is yours.
