Some words and phrases seem to fade away like the changing of seasons. I recently came across one while reading my Bible; it seemed liked I could nearly hear my Dad bellowing it out. He frequently had a short fuse and used a phrase when he lost his temper. I'm "confused" as to how loudly asserting himself with "Confound it" eased his frustration.
"For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like flint; and I know that I shall not be ashamed. He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? Let us stand together: who is mine adversary? Let him come near to me. Behold, the Lord God will help me (Isaiah 50:7-9a KJV)." God's love never changes!
