Sunday School Class Receives Special Assignment

by Greg Miller
5/20/2012 / Humor

A Sunday school teacher, Miss Rebecca, gave the members of her class a special assignment.

"Today," she said, "I want each of you to write down the name of your favorite Bible story. Also, I want you to write the reason the story is your favorite. After everyone has completed the assignment, I want each of you to tell me what you have written."

Roy said his favorite Bible story was the one about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. "As the world's first couple, they would have a great perspective on life in today's world," he remarked. "Plus, they could tell us how they felt after they committed the first sin."

Rexann said her favorite story from God's Word was the one about Cain and Abel. "Since this was the story of the world's first murder, it gives us a good view of sin in the heart," she said.

"My favorite story is about Jonah and the Whale," Raven said. "In this story, a great fish is able to tell the tale about the human who got away!"

"Daniel and the Lion's Den is my favorite story," said Ron. "Daniel was thrown into the lion's den, and those lions didn't even act like they wanted a snack!"

"My favorite story is the one where David killed that mean old Goliath," said Rita. "Goliath was trusting in his physical strength and military ability, but David's faith was in the supernatural power of the creator of the universe."

Rose emphatically declared that her favorite story was the one about Jesus feeding the multitude with the loaves and fishes. "I'm afraid that's one I would have to see to believe," Rose said.

Rollie's favorite story was the one in which Jesus healed the 10 lepers but only one returned to thank Him. "I'd like to get a good look at the nine who didn't even thank Him," Rollie said.

Rachel's favorite story was the entire life of the Lord Jesus Christ. "The story of Jesus is the most important one in the Bible," she said. "His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, ascension and second coming."

She continued, "If you remove the story of Jesus from the Holy Word of God, you would be removing the part of the Bible that gives mankind the only way to be reconciled to God."

"You're right, Rachael," said Miss Rebecca, who began jumping up and down and clapping her hands. "You did such a wonderful job, I'm giving you a standing ovation!"

The ovation for Rachael soon gave way to a standing ovation for Miss Rebecca. After a few seconds, Miss Rebecca motioned for silence.

Miss Rebecca offered a suggestion to the class. "I think we should offer a standing ovation to the Lord," she said. "He's the one who suffered and died on the Cross of Calvary. I think He should be the one to receive all the praise!"
