WHATSOEVER HE ASK YOU TO DO, DO IT!

by John Seun

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
Mark 9:23
Once upon a time there was a wealthy man who used his riches to oppress the poor. He would pick any maiden in the community for sex at his convenience their marital status notwithstanding and seized several parcels of farmland that caught his attention. Everyone in the community lived in fear of the man and he grew in wealth daily feasting on the fear of the people.

One day he violated the wife of a young man who in turn vowed to seek justice. This young man travelled far to the capital to lay a complaint and the rich man was invited for investigation and questioning. On the day of the final judgement the Judge was fed-up with the man's arrogance that he thought in his mind what punishment he would mete out to the rich man having found him guilty of the charges.

According to the law, the right judgment would be imprisonment with an option of fine but the man can afford any amount of money as fine. So the Judge said to the man- "you have committed a grave offence and you are liable to 10 years imprisonment with an option of fine in the sum of a coin which you must produce within 2 hours after this pronouncement". Everyone in the court room got so confused. People were sad because they assumed the Judge had been compromised. Why did he ask for just a coin from a man that is rich and wealthy?

The rich man searched all through looking for a coin but all he had were cash, cash and cash. He begged the poor but they wouldn't trade, so at the expiration of the 2 hours he was escorted to the prison yard to start his time.

The way of the Lord is plain and simple, too plain and simple that an ordinary human mind can not comprehend. The way of the Lord is utter nonsense to human reasoning which is why many are suffering and lamenting in pain.

Human are too wise for their own good. Some even consider themselves wise enough to explain God, by assuming that all He created are pure scientific degeneration and regeneration. I often hear people make mockery of the existence of God and I always wonder just like the Psalmist "who is man that thou art mindful of him".

That is why anytime He (God) wants to reveal something to man He uses a very common and most simplest means such that most will never be able to bend and pick therefore missing out completely on His blessings. When He speaks, to some people it is rubbish because it doesn't make sense.

Do you know that most people think that dancing and praising God is childishness? I have stopped paying attention to those who thinks that speaking in tongues is meaningless. Rightly so, when you talk to God no mortal man is expected to understand because it's the language of the spirit that is meant only for Holy Spirit's interpretation.

Brethren we have to be simple in order to understand the ways of God. He said He will always use a weak substance or thing to trouble the strong just like the Judge in the excerpt above. The humble and attentive student learns faster and knows better.

I will attempt brief analysis of some of the most unimaginable instructions God gave in the Bible that led to supernatural breakthroughs.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. Numbers 20:7-8

In the wilderness, during the Israelites' journey from Egypt, Moses' brethren were about to eat him raw because of thirst and almost all of them were pointing accusing fingers at him. They needed water immediately and are ready to do anything to the man who they believed has brought them to suffer. After consultation with God, God asked him to strike a rock with a mere shepherd's stick. If I were Moses I could have asked God not to play games with me, knowing fully well that my life was at stake. That was humanly impossible. The best result, by mortal explanation, is that the stick would have broken to pieces and then Moses must have probably been stoned to death by the angry mob. But see what verse 9 of Numbers 20 says: And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. He was so stupid enough to believe a stupid instruction from an invisible helper and father. Oh! What an outstanding result he got in verse 11:
And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

All he needed to do was to strike once and for even applying extra force he got punish for it. What a God of simple instruction.

Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley. And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me. Judges 7:1-2

Israel, during the reign of Gideon, was confronted with the host of Midianites who has been tormenting them for years and God instructed Gideon to lead a war against them with a promise of victory. It's common sense that country with the most number of soldiers and equipments often win wars but God kept telling Gideon to trim down his army until he was left with just 300 soldiers. Look at the funny instruction in verse 9: And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand. I would have asked God where he learnt His own war technique from if I were Gideon. I mean 300 men against a host? That was a suicide mission. Verse 12 gave us a brief description of how many men they were up against:
And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
No war General would have obeyed that kind of instruction but stupid Gideon who stupidly did as instructed was victorious as painted in verse 16-25.

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. 2 Kings 5:10

Here is another outrageous and annoying instruction. How can Elisha look at a highly placed man in an empire and say oh! Boy go and take a shower not in the Jacuzzi but in a dirty river and I was glad to read the response of Naaman in verses 11 and 12 as thus: But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. Of course, one will believe that a man of Naaman's calibre may even have slaves licking his leprosy, bathing him with expensive medicated soap and smoothening his body with expensive moisturizer and a matching cologne yet an ugly looking Prophet said he should go and bath in a dirty river, how ironic. So Naaman attempted to lecture God on how he should be treated but it didn't help him until he did as instructed in verse 14 and he got an instant testimony.

Many of us will recall the much preached miracle in Canaan as recorded by John 2:1-11. From the description in the scripture, the wedding was a celebrity wedding where all important personalities were invited and all of a sudden the wine finished. I guess the celebrant was in shock and had no option and was asking all around for help when he came up to Jesus' mother who gave him a nasty instruction: Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it in verse 5. Imagine a man fighting to keep his dignity amongst his peers, not because he didn't have money to buy the wine but probably because the wine store is very far from the venue being told to fill water pots not with wine but waters not only this, Jesus told him to fetch the water he has just dropped into the waterpots and serve as wine. I would have bust with outrage and probably asked Him to leave my wedding. I mean the man was trying to save face for heaven's sake and all Christ could do, by human explanation, was to worsen his situation. Paradoxical isn't it? Yeah! But the man did as instructed and verse 9 to 10 shows the unimaginable commendation and joy the bridegroom got. Outstanding, to say the least.

Friends, you can't understand God, you can not explain Him. He said His ways are higher than our ways and His thought far beyond ours. You may also recall that He said He knows the thoughts He has towards you. That is, only Him knows. A car manufacturer's knowledge is far greater than the intellects of his car. So they said you don't have womb don't worry, he has a spare womb for you. He will replace it.

A woman in our church was diagnosed to be HIV positive. After one of our Sunday services she heard in her heart that she should take a hand full of earth from the church and mix in form a tea and drink. Very funny instruction, if you ask me, but she did just that and the following day being Monday she went in for test and was confirmed to be HIV negative by the same doctor. Unsatisfactorily she went to several other hospitals for counter-confirmation but all results came out negative. Imagine, earth, oops! Many will assume it's a devilish instruction considering the grave medical implications. Can the maker of the eyes be with out an eye?

You might be waiting for Him on the highway and He chooses to use the short cut just don't bother, follow Him and you will be glad you did. Once you establish that it is the Lord speaking just go ahead with whatever instruction he has given no matter how stupid they sound.

The same Jesus that healed the lepers just by a word (Luke 17:14-19) and raised Lazarus by the word of His mouth used a different method when he healed a blind man in John 9:6-21.

A powerful man of God in my country was about three months away from becoming a professor in mathematics when God called him to be a pastor. I mean this man was a University lecturer and doing ok. Narrating his ordeal, he said his folks assumed he was mad when he told them God called him. What is the connection between mathematics and Bible but somehow he believed and today he is known worldwide and at a very old age he is still preaching on his feet for hours without sitting.

May his word find fulfilment in your life as you listen in Jesus name.
