Choose Your Union - Part 3 - Reunion

by Jerry Ousley
9/14/2012 / Christian Living

Aren't reunions great? You get the opportunity to see aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives you may only get to see on special occasions like this. I recently attended a reunion with my wife. It was the reunion of her relatives on her mother's side of the family. Frankly, I had only met a couple of these people before and really didn't know them very well. But it was good for her and if we get to go next year I'll go with her. Eventually I'll get to know these people who are so special in her life.

When I was a child I always looked forward to the reunions our family had. It was exciting to get with cousins we enjoyed playing with. It was great to hear the stories from uncles I hadn't seen for a while. But as I get older these meetings seem to get, well, not quite as exciting as they were as children. No one wants to play anymore. Everyone's life seems to be changing and, to be honest I think a lot of them are just making their polite appearance, because after we eat it seems many of them say their "good-byes" until the next year's reunion rolls around.

We've been talking about unions. In the spiritual world there are only two unions: The labor union of the world and the communion of the Kingdom of Heaven. I want to submit that the communion of the Kingdom of God will ultimately result in the greatest reunion in history. I'm speaking of the day when we will be reunited with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a reunion that will top any reunion ever planned by mankind. It won't be an annual reunion that results in a short visit with family, but will be an eternal reunion that results in our reuniting with believers around the world once and for all. We'll be together with Jesus forever.

There will be food there. The Bible tells us in the Book of Revelation that there will be a marriage supper of the Lamb A feast celebrating the coming together of Jesus Christ and His Church. But when dinner is over there won't be any sad or hurried "good-byes" because we aren't going anywhere.

This reunion will take place when Christ calls his children to be with Him. Think of the astounding truth of this coming together; the trumpet of God will sound, calling all those millions who have died those from the past centuries and in recent times, who have gone on, will come bursting out of their graves in glorified, changed bodies ascending up to Jesus. Immediately after, those who are still alive and walking around on the face of Planet Earth will instantly be changed, given the same glorious body, and they too will begin their ascent to Jesus. They will meet together in the air with those who have died before, as we all go up to Jesus together. What a reunion! Oh the stories that are going to be told. We can sit around and tell them to each other taking as much time as we need. No one has to get up early and go to work the next day. Nobody has to be in any hurry whatsoever.

We will be together, according 1 Corinthians 15, forever a never ending period of time. Now that's a reunion!

But to participate in this great reunion we have to be saved. We have to come to Jesus Christ. We must recant the hard labor union of the world and become a member of the communion of God. It's not hard to do. In fact, Jesus Christ has paid the membership fees and dues in advance. All we've got to do is to take possession of our membership card by asking Him for it. It may require some sacrifice on our parts. We've got to be willing to give up the membership of this hard labor union of the world. We've got to be willing to let Christ form a new nature within us; one that is based on and promotes love instead of greed, hatred and scheming how we're going to get ahead of everyone else.

But think of the benefits! We'll be trading death for eternal life, and freedom even when in captivity, and we'll be looking forward to that great time of reunion. Think about it, but not for too long because the call to attend that great reunion could come any minute now.
