The Shield of Faith

I got up this morning with a made up mind
I'll not sin against Jesus not even one time.

I'll think on His word and I'll pass the test
When Temptation comes I'll boldly stick out my chest!

I was so brave and I was real proud
That I was not weak like most of my crowd.

But, Satan is cunning and he is a sneak
He knew where to aim and the place I was weak.

I was so confident I laid down my shield
This was a mistake as does God's word reveal!

"I'm so strong a sword is all that I need!"
"To carry this shield there's just really no need!"

Temptation attacked and I proudly fought with a grin
Till a small dart got thru where my shield should have been!

It stung but a little so I paid it no mind
But, I began to grow weak in a moment of time.

The weight of my sword grew heavy as could be
As I fought with Temptation who now smiled at me.

Temptation was strong and knocked my sword from my hand
With no weapon to fight I made my last stand.

Temptation ran at me and he struck a lethal blow
Fallen, I remembered Peter when the old rooster did crow!

I cried unto Jesus, "Please forgive me of this sin!"
Jesus tossed me my shield and said, "Go fight again!"
