Chains around the heart not letting go
Of yesterday's pain from what we have sown
Reaping sorrow from past deadly sins
Clinging to memories of where we've been

Chains around the heart keeping us safe
From more heartache, suffering and pain
Suffocating our feelings until they die
Delaying life's horrors from making us cry

Chains around the heart keep Jesus out
So we cannot learn what His love is about
Sinking so far into that deep, black void
Unable to reach out to our Savior and Lord

Chains around our heart diminish our lives
Satan can reach us with deplorable lies
If only we knew what we do to ourselves
Each link of the chain only leads us to hell
