Was it I Lord . . .
who hung You on that tree
was it I who denied You
on the count of three?
Was it I who betrayed You,
who said where You were
was it my unbelief
that made Your death occur?
Was it my recklessness,
was it I who fell fast asleep
was it my lack of faith
that my watch I couldn't keep?
Was it I who yelled out,
they should crucify You
was it I You said to . . .
"They don't know what they do?"
Was it I who mocked You,
while You were in pain
was it I who spat on You
while lots were cast for gain?
Was it I Lord . . .
who hung You on that tree?
Was it I who denied You . . .
Oh dear Lord ~ please say it wasn't me!

"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots."
