The river runs just as free
by Don V. Standeford
12/26/2012 / Poetry

I know how doggedly and incessantly you searched,
and now you've found the pearl of great worth;

Even the wonders of a fine forest fail
To produce the rood that holds the mystic nails.

Pull on your corks, make ready the task,
There's more than one valley in this mountain pass.

So you fear death,
Just think of it as life in disguise;
we'll step right into new skin
When our bodies die;

Till then we'll ache
When his heart aches,
Feel the pain
of each of our personal loss;

So too we will share
His throne. Ever hear of thunder
Echoing in the soul?
Even the coldest weeping heart
Rekindled in fire

From the holy stream,
Reshapes you into another holier
Being. In humility
We drop sails to wind,
Feel the rush

Of nature's freedom
Filling canvas, and in heaven
There are so many people I want to see,
And I'll know them

For eternity;
With those I knew on Earth
I'll pick up
From some conversation in our past,
But this dialogue will last and last and last and last;
Our lips will sing the tune played
Upon some liquid string
In pink places

Of our hidden pasts,
Where quarks reverse ticking
Clocks and hope fills
The sails
With its light wind;

Friends are close for eternity,
And billowing up,
our purpose will be carried out to its end,
Eternity

Breathed upon by the past
To polish the lake of un-
Certainty,
And the glass mirrors
Face cloud cover,

Rippling pictures of clouds
Who float in a river
That runs so free,
So doggedly
The river pursues its course

In the path it cut out once in liberty;
I thought truth
lay in the swirling clouds,
But the river runs just as free,

Welling up within you, breeches,
Breaks free

But will it reach the sea?
