Addressing a Man Whose Reputation Has Been Maligned for Centuries

Oh, philosopher, how battered
And abused in this age you are
Even college professors stand firm
Against you; feminists deny
Your authority, yet you loved
Your converts dearly, always wanting
For their best, such love would've
Suffered Hell if he could only save
Another person's eternity.
Yet that deep love is twisted, spun,
Outlawed, Christ's chosen man,
And the rich man asks for you
To choose another, while religious
Knowing no room for the marauder.
So choose another, one more forgiving,
New Testament philosopher,
How much you lay on the line,
Stretching your neck for truth,
Some could not open up their hearts
But you put it all on the line,
Placed your head in the chopping
Block, spared nothing for yourself
Except goodness, shared your life
With all who would come, Joy spinning
From deep inside your soul
Who dare say you hated women
You've gone through the hoops
If anyone has, still you shone as Stephen
Did being stoned, you held their coats,
Oh, philosopher, a serious mistake
Still joy spilled from your soul, power
Had complete control, offered it
Up for acquaintances, friends, enemies
Inside your heart was free,
Even in shackles, cared not for himself,
No shackles can contain your soul.
