Maximizing The Benefits of Jesus' Sacrifice On The Cross

by Anthony Osei Boateng
4/02/2013 / Christian Living

When Adam and Eve sinned against God, man got separated from God and sin was born in man, the wages of which is death. Death came to man not only in the form of physical death but also in the form spiritual death; death of joy, peace, happiness, true love and many other attributes. The source of all these attributes was God; but when the wedge was created between man and God, there was a loss of access to this source. Apart from all these, the sinful nature of the flesh with its desires, weaknesses and attributes got amplified in man. When Jesus died on the cross, He cleansed us of all our sins and restored the broken bridge to God granting us access to become co-heirs of God's Kingdom.

The problem is that, when many people obtain salvation, they stop there and forget about reaping the other benefits of Jesus' unique sacrifice. John 14:12 states: very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father" (NIV). This means that salvation is just a starting point for us as Christians, and that there is a lot more required of us after being saved. We need to pray more, have more joy, more peace, more love, more patience and an amplified version of all the fruits of the Spirit. Just as sin amplified the influence of the flesh and sinful nature in man; Jesus' death serves to amplify the strength of our spirit man. John the Baptist said in Luke 3:16 "I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire". The Holy Spirit quickens our mortal bodies and gives us the superhuman edge. The fire is a new passion and an inherent drive for the things of God. This is how we can help bring many more people to Christ.

Our salvation should not end with us alone; but it should bear the fruit of causing many others to be saved. That is how we maximise the benefit of Jesus' sacrifice; i.e by being vessels through which God would bring many more people into salvation. The only way is to uncover and reach all the full potential associated with our salvation. We do not need to worry about our needs and wants; as we focus on God's Kingdom and its righteousness. Mat. 6:33 states But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (NIV). Precious blood has been shed for us. Let us make the most use of this unique opportunity and our lives shall never be the same again. A child of God should walk: by faith, not by sight, in peace, joy, love, good deeds and every fruit of the Spirit. After obtaining salvation, we should not remain in uncertainty, sadness, worry and with disturbing thoughts. Jesus carried everything to the cross for us so let us maximise and fully utilise all the benefits which comes along with this sacrifice. This would also be a way for us to show appreciation to Jesus for His unique sacrifice for us. May God bless us all and help us to reap all the benefits of our salvation in Jesus' name Amen!!
