Bachelor Party

by Jerry Ousley
6/14/2007 / Christian Living

One time Debbie accompanied our youth leaders and some of the youth in our Church on an outing to Myrtle Beach. Wow! What an outing! I was really happy for them because it was not only a youth outing but also a get-a-way for Deb and our youth leaders. All three of them needed it and it was well deserved.

This, however, left me to fend for myself. Deb didn't work a public job, but to say she didn't work would be much more than an understatement. She spent countless hours each week preparing for skits, studying for messages and so forth. She also spent many hours each week running to get supplies for the Youth Center and Church, mowing the lawns of the Church and Youth Center (and our home), cooking, cleaning, and well, the list just goes on and on. So she worked very hard, but didn't get paid much for it. Not really a coveted job would you say?

During her absence, a lot of this responsibility fell to me. I may have been alone in the evening but only for a very brief time. I actually spent less time at home that week than normal (which wasn't much on a normal week). It left me to find my own food, wash my own clothes, etc., etc. It really wasn't much of a "Bachelor Party."

I missed her very much, not just for all the work she did, but also because of her companionship and love. It made me to think of how it might be without God in my life.

I just don't understand, nor can I comprehend how people can get through life without Him. He is always there, never leaving nor forsaking us. When I need a friend to talk to, I just begin to speak to my God and I know He listens and speaks back to my heart.

He has been a constant source for keeping my sanity, making correct decisions, and balancing my temper at reasonable levels. He keeps me in line by always letting me know in my heart when I'm getting out of hand or about to go beyond my boundaries. I don't know what I'd do without Him in my life.

I think, "Just how do people get by without God?" And then I take a look around me at all the troubles, worries and evils that are going on in other people's lives. Then I know that they really aren't getting by without God. They just exist from day to day.

But we don't have to live that way. Just by sincerely asking Jesus Christ to come into our lives, will change us forever. He will then be there for us (most people don't know that He's there for them anyway, they just won't acknowledge it).

Be saved today. Allow Jesus Christ to come into your life. He will make a difference. Separation from God just isn't much of a Bachelor's Party.
