Wise car owners change the oil periodically, check the dipstick frequently and add a quart of oil whenever needed. Without sufficient oil, their vehicle engine will cease to function as the manufacturer intended. God the Father gave instructions to his prophets about anointing servants with holy oil; it symbolized his empowering them, enabling them to function as spiritual leaders.
"Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of the brethren; and the spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13a KJV)." King David bore weight of the nation Israel upon mortal shoulders. His LORD, through Holy Spirit power, rested upon him. David went forward functioning as one after God's heart (Acts 13:22)....
