Light and Life

Did you know that you have a choice between Light and Life and darkness and death?
Did you know that you make the choice everyday whether you know it or not?
Many of us wake up in the morning with a deep feeling of frustration. We feel that we no longer control our own lives. The media assures us that our leaders are incompetent to make wise decisions --- our economy is out of control, jeopardizing our future security. It assures us that the health care system is about to put our parents on a death list.
Is it any wonder that we wake up in the morning filled with anxiety?
Anxiety, over time, festers into anger. Anger at losing control of our own lives, anger at the government, our neighbor, members of our own family and, sometimes, even at God.
Anger, allowed to simmer in our souls, can result in us lashing out at our wives, husbands, children or neighbors who annoy us. How many families have been destroyed by uncontrolled anger?
We also are a society filled with indifference. I have mine --- I cannot worry about everything. Things have always been this way. Now if they had made better choices like I did, they would be where I am. I am a self made man! Sometimes we worry about things like the world poor or the political situation because we believe, as Christians, we should have compassion on the unfortunate and care about other countries at war, starving or in need of medical care. God, in His wisdom and compassion for our frail souls, did not make us to carry such heavy burdens daily. He created us to handle the burdens of life one day at a time. Some may have the resources to contribute to those He has chosen to reach out to in need. If we do not, we need to minister locally as he leads us.
Some of us may find ourselves slowly moving down the dark path leading to the death of our soul and spirit. It started innocently enough --- just a little adjustment here and there. A compromise now and then to please a friend, after all, look at all he did for me when I needed it. That expense account --- after all, I do not think they pay me enough anyway. Taxes, I have had it. I am not about to pay for any more fancy vacations. And so we think and rationalize until we are farther down the dark path than we realize.
Thankfully, no matter how far down the path of darkness we are, we can stop and make a choice. We can choose Light and Life over darkness and death. Our Heavenly Father waits patiently to welcome us safely back into the fold under the care of our Good Shepherd. If we are concerned about our needs being met, our Lord assures us that if we look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap and store away and yet our heavenly father feeds them. Are we not worth more than them? (Matt. 6:25 27) If we are concerned about our business, our investments or our position in life, our Lord clearly tells us that we cannot serve both God and money at the same time. (Matt. 6:24) He tells us to trust Him, meaning, placing Him first in our lives, and not to rely on our own understanding. If we consult Him in prayer in everything we do, He will guide us, daily, through his Holy Spirit. (Prov. 3:5, 6)
Our Lord assures us that His plans are to prosper us, not harm us. He plans to give us hope and a future. What more can we ask? (Jer. 29:11 14)
Even more precious is our return to peace and joy in our life. This is a gift that no amount of money, power or prestige can give us. The wealthiest billionaire in the world cannot buy this gift that is so freely given to the lowliest of us if we simply ask and receive.
We say, "It is too good to be true" and so it would seem. It seems incredible that this all powerful God who created everything, knows us and wants a relationship with us in our daily lives if we will only invite Him.
We say, "I am young and have plenty of time but do we really? Maybe we do but what if we are wrong? The only thing we can be sure of is the knife edge of now. Yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow a promissory note. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose except your fear and anxiety, if you are sincere.
Make the choice now!

As a senior citizen, I am dedicated to serving the Lord through sharing my experiences and insights with other believers. My primary focus is upon being an disciple of Jesus and, in being one, I can help others to find their spiritual way also.
