Evaluation of Observations

by Bobby Bruno
3/28/2014 / Bible Studies

The Bible is inexhaustible! You can read a scripture today and learn about submitting to your husband or wife, and then read the same scripture tomorrow and learn about loving the church. God's wisdom is so much greater than ours. He can pack more meanings into one verse than we could possibly ever get out of it. This is why we must pray for His wisdom before we study any verse in the Bible. Only God can show us what He wants us to understand from His Word. Also, there is so much the Bible has to tell us that we could never study all of it in its entirety before Jesus takes us home. As Jesus once told us, not until Heaven will we know Him or the Father as they both know us. The Bible is the only place we have at this time to understand just who God is and what He desires for us and from us in our time on this Earth. Our God is huge! Our lifetimes are just too short to get to know all of Him here.

I know for sure that I never get the full meaning out of scripture in one sitting. I know that God has different things to tell me at different times, even within the same verse of scripture. I am constantly amazed, especially as I write my articles, how much I can get out of one scripture. Sometimes, I'll look back at them to see that a certain scripture that I've used twice in different articles say something completely different from each other depending on the topic of the article. I am happy that the Holy Spirit has better powers of observation than I do.

Comment: I guess you could say God reveals us his word in baby steps, so we will not feel over whelmed with his word.

Author Response: I agree. If God were to gives us all His wisdom all at once our minds would explode! It's like the scene in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, where Spock is trying to mind meld with the alien to see how much knowledge is has amassed. During the meld, he is overwhelmed by tons of information being fed into his brain at a pace his brain was not made to handle. That's how I picture God giving all of his knowledge to us too quickly. Our minds couldn't handle not so much the knowledge, but the science behind what it took for Him to create everything. (Okay, if you don't like Star Trek, then how about when Dave went through the time tunnel in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He couldn't handle the amount of knowledge he was being shown either.) (Boy, I must be old, huh?)

Comment: I really never paid any attention to whether there was more to observe. I will now slow down and start to observe things a little closer.

Author Response: I know how you feel. Until I read the chapter in our book, and started doing the research for this week's paper, I had no idea just how much there is to find in scripture. I never realized that there are so many ways to find the meaning outside of just reading the scripture and using basic observation techniques. Thank the Lord that He helps us understand His Word through His Spirit. It would take us a lifetime just to understand one verse let alone a whole book of the Bible.

Comment: I guess you could say God reveals us his word in baby steps, so we will not feel over whelmed with his word.

Author Response: I understand baby steps very well. When I gave my life to Jesus in 1999, I fell to the floor crying and told Him that I am just a baby and that He would have to tell me what love is and how to live right. Ever since then its been one step at a time. I haven't reached where even I want to be, let alone where Jesus wants me to be, but I know I'll get there in His timing.
