Don't Negotiate With the Opposition.

by ETURUVIE EREBOR
4/19/2014 / Christian Living

There is no doubt that every move you make in the direction of your dreams and goals will be resisted; ask any successful man or woman and they will tell you that in their journey to success they had to tackle opposition. You see, as long as you are advancing, you will meet with stiff opposition and often it seems the greater the level of success to be attained, the fiercer the opposition.
I have observed that if the opposition can't stop you it most likely will negotiate with you to lower your standards or reduce the size of your dreams and goals. For example, if your goal is to buy a four bedroom house by December 2014, the opposition that cannot stop you may negotiate with you to settle for buying a one bedroom house by December 2015 (I hope this illustration helps you understand what I'm talking about). However, you must determine today never to negotiate with the opposition. Don't negotiate with the opposition, don't lower your standards, if you don't bow you will not burn.
Moses is a good example of one person who refused to negotiate with the opposition. He had a dream to see his people, the Israelites, move from a life of slavery in Egypt to one of total freedom in Canaan, the land which God had promised them was flowing with milk and honey. With this desire, he approached Pharaoh, King of Egypt and demanded the release of his people from bondage. At first Pharaoh saw him as a jester not worthy of any serious attention but as Moses persisted with his demand, Pharaoh realised the issue was not one to be taken lightly and that Moses was quite determined to get what he wanted so he began to negotiate with him. He asked, "Who are those that will go?" (Meaning, you can't all go) then he said, "you can go but not very far" (meaning, I want you close so that you will not be totally free), then he said, "only the men can go, leave the women behind" (meaning, some of you will be free but others will remain in bondage so ultimately the status quo will not change), then he said "you can go but leave your livestock behind" (meaning you can go but I will seize your wealth or your means of livelihood). Fortunately, Moses refused to negotiate with Pharaoh and finally the day came when because he (Moses) did not lower his standards and because he refused to bow, Pharaoh bowed and said, "Now go as you have said." (Meaning have it exactly as you want it) And to show that Moses had gained respect with the opposition, Pharaoh went on to say, "And bless me also".
The three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego come to mind at this point; like Moses, they refused to lower their standards and would not bow in worship to the image set up by the king Nebuchadnezzar and they dared the king to carry out his threat. They were thrown into the furnace but did not burn. When they emerged from the furnace unhurt, they were promoted, as is always the case when we refuse to lower our standards.
The truth is when you allow the opposition negotiate with you to settle for something less or lower your standards or your values, you lose respect for yourself and it doesn't end there; those close to you, (and the opposition) lose respect for you.
However, if you refuse to bow the opposition will bow and respect you for your tenacity.
