The Last Hour (It's all a matter of the heart)

by Rochelle Arnold
8/13/2014 / Christian Living

Remember the mercy of the Lord when he saved the thief on the cross in his final hours. Jesus is always willing to save even when we are about to die and don't deserve it. Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus, shall be saved. God works in mysterious ways. Even after Jesus had been beaten and broken hanging on the cross, he was willing to save the thief.

Barabbas, a murder was released so that an innocent man, Jesus, would be crucified. These murders and thieves I believe are a symbol of our earthly nature. The Bible says there is nothing good in the flesh. Jesus took upon himself all of the sins of the world. He came to save the world not to condemn it. There is hope! We must pray for the world also and not condemn it. If we are to reflect Christ, we must walk with him and have a personal relationship with him so we will know his true nature.

Luke 23:39 One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, "So you're the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself and us, too, while you're at it!" but the other criminal protested, "Don't you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn't done anything wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom." And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."

This story just goes to show that even in the sinners last hours, Jesus was able to rescue him from spiritual death. Though the thief still physically died, his spirit went on to paradise. Unlike us, the Lord never gives up on anyone. Not even up until the very hour of our death. It's a matter of the heart. Will you continue to curse God and Jesus to the end or in the last hour will you call upon Him and be saved.
