TRANSPLANTING OUR MIND
by Jeffrey Hagan
10/01/2014 / Christian Living
by Rev. Jeff Hagan, DCE, DMin, (ThD)
Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus" (NKJV).
Introduction:
Total Depravity, our thoughts prove this doctrine to be true. So often we struggle with our thoughts - anxiety, fear, jealousy, bitterness, immorality. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have a thought, or mind, transplant? Let's look at our thoughts in comparison to God's thoughts.
1. Our Thoughts
-Evil:
"The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually" (Gen. 6:5, ESV).
"But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, 'Why do you think evil in your hearts?'" (Matt. 9:4, ESV).
-Godless:
"In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, 'There is no God'" (Psalm 10:4, ESV).
-Futile:
"The Lord knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile" (Psalm 94:11, NIV).
2. Gods Thoughts
-Higher:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isa. 55:8-9, ESV).
-Precious:
"How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!" (Psalm 139:17, ESV).
-Deep:
"How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep!" (Psalm 92:5, ESV).
Conclusion:
I pray that the Lord would give all of us the mind of Christ, helping us to think how he thinks as we make our way through life every day. This mind, or thought, "transplant" is part of the process of our sanctification and it is done by letting God's Word permeate through us (Colossians 3:16, " Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."). We are sanctified by His truth (John 17;17, " Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.").
