Love My Enemy?

by Faith Noles
10/20/2014 / Christian Living

Frankie slammed her laptop shut, gritting her teeth in rage.

"I hate them! They are despicable beasts and not fit to live!" Frankie exclaimed out loud.

"Just let them come to my neck of the woods. I've got something waiting for them and the name 'Isis' is stamped on every bullet!" she snarled.

"Frankie? Are you okay?"

Frankie's Dad, Joshua Williams, who had been a pastor at Hillside Baptist Church for Frankie's entire life, peered through her open door.

"Who are you talking to?" he asked with concern in his voice as he glanced around the room.

Frankie looked up at her Dad, eyes still flaming with anger.

"I wasn't talking to anyone Dad. It's just I hate ISIS so much! I wish I could go fight them!" Frankie balled her fist tightly and punched the air.

"Whoa there little girl, as a Christian you're not supposed to hate anyone. In fact Jesus tells us to love our enemies" her Dad spoke softly, the concern now showing in his wrinkled brow.

"What? Love those filthy beasts?" she shook her head from side to side. Frankie couldn't believe Jesus was talking about ISIS.

"Frankie, they are not beasts. They are men and women with souls. Jesus paid for their sins on the cross just as much as he paid for our sins."

"But Dad, you don't know all they've done! I just got through reading another article about the atrocities they've committed. They are horrible!"

"Frankie, all sin is horrible. Hating someone is also a terrible sin." He glanced at his watch.

"I've got to meet a parishioner at three." Dad walked over to Frankie and pecked her on the cheek.

He walked briskly out of the room, but stopped in the hall way and turned to look at Frankie one more time.

"You think about what I just told you. I love you baby girl."

"Love you too Dad" Frankie mumbled.

Frankie dived into her soft bed, pulled her IPhone out of her pocket and checked Facebook. Sandra, a friend from Frankie's online prayer partners posted an article titled 'Terror Group Inadvertently Creates Curiosity in Iraq' which was published by Ruth Kramer.

Frankie clicked the link and began to read. The story had been released by Christian Aid Mission (CAM). The article told of how multiple people in Iraq are coming to ask CAM about Jesus and they are accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. The reason for this revival was pointed out by a Colonel with the Kurds who said, "You who follow Christ send love and peace and goodness to people every day."

The Holy Spirit began tugging on Frankie's heart strings as she read the second sentence of the article. Frankie wept with joy over the revival of the Kurds. The Holy Spirit whispered, "Jesus first loved you. Forgive others so Jesus may forgive you." The power of the Holy Spirit washed over her in waves and she began to weep and mourn over her sin.

"Oh God, forgive me for the hatred in my heart. Cleanse me dear Lord, I ask in Jesus name."

Frankie felt that icy coldness in her heart melt into a heart of flesh. The doorbell rang and interrupted Frankie's prayer of thanksgiving. Frankie dried her eyes quickly and ran to answer the door. There stood Nayereh, a Muslim girl from Frankie's class. Nayereh was dressed in full Muslim garb. Frankie was shocked to say the least! She had never even talked to Nayereh even though they shared a class and rode the same bus.

"May I come in?" asked Nayereh.

Frankie swung the door wider. "Sure, come on in."

"Are there men present?" Nayereh's eyes wandered past the foyer.

"No, just me."

Nayereh lowered the black veil covering the lower part of her face and whispered, "I overheard you talk to friend about Jesus. I come to ask you about Jesus."

Frankie's smile was radiant. The kind of smile that only comes from those pure in heart.

"Come in my friend and let me introduce you to Jesus Christ."

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:14, 15 KJV

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God." 1 John 4:7 KJV
