Tiger Woods Is An Embarrassment

There are many haters of Tiger Woods out there just joyful in heart and glad in spirit at his downfall. I am not one of them.

There are lots of Tiger Woods sycophants who think he can do no wrong and that he is wrongly castigated because of his race. I most certainly am not one of them.

On the other hand there are many out there who cares nothing about Tiger Woods, have no appreciation for his sublime skills, and are ignorant of his place in sporting legend in general and professional golf in particular. For the third time let me affirm that I am not one of them.

Every sportsman of the highest calibre, and Tiger Woods is certainly one of them, brings something special to humanity. While many people are not interested in sport, nevertheless it is true that sporting excellence can teach us important lessons.

Even the venerable Apostle Paul used sporting associations when he, with the Ancient Olympics in mind, said: "You know that in a race all the runners run, but only one runner gets the prize. So run like that. Run to win!" (1 Corinthians 9:24 Easy-To-Read Version)

So why, in my humble opinion, is Tiger Woods a huge embarrassment?

Because he has declined rapidly at an age when he should be at the pinnacle of his career? No. Decline from sporting excellence comes sooner or later to every sporting superstar and in Tiger Woods' case it came rather early.

Because he failed to break the golfing record of 18 majors held by Jack Nicklaus? Not really. You expect the sportsman with the superior skill and the most talent to break the record but if he doesn't that is no big deal.

Because his appreciation of a major sport like golf has been lacking and his approach is unprofessional and tardy. Absolutely not. Tiger Woods had great ambition, respects the traditions and history of the sport and trains and prepares himself exceedingly well for every game.

Since none of the above are true for Tiger Woods, how come he is such a huge embarrassment currently?

The answer is glaring; and to many quite staggering.

Tiger Woods non-golfing activities are what have undone him.

Tiger Woods made the fatal mistake of allowing what many men think is "being a man" to become part of his persona and he has paid the hard consequences.

Many men are brought up in a culture of disrespect for women. Women are to be used like tissue paper; and tossed aside once used except when they want a woman to have their children.

And this accursed culture of masculinity applies to all races and all classes. Kings and Presidents, past and present, celebrities and riffraff alike have adopted this culture of disrespect and infidelity towards their womenfolk.

Even in today's modern world some men still think that every woman is there for their taking and all they have to do is choose the ones they want. Some men even used force to get their own way (as numerous women alleged with regards to comedian Bill Cosby) because they do not have the right attitude towards women.

Once there was a world-wide respect and admiration for Tiger Woods, and he knew it and could look in the eyes of the public and see that respect reflected back in multiples. Today what he sees frightens him and his mind is totally befogged by the weight and intensity of the public's scorn and searing derision.

Tiger Woods embarrassment is not so much that he has massively transgressed and be found out, that he was living a lie for so many years, that he was a morally sick human being out of control and unwilling to change.

No, his embarrassment springs from the fact that he can't clear his head, put things behind him and move forward resolutely with renewed vigour and purpose.

Tiger Woods has no resource he can call on to do what is necessary; because he is a Buddhist. Many people do not regard Buddhism as a true religion because as Wikipedia notes, "One consistent belief held by all Buddhist schools is the lack of a Creator deity"

Buddhists do not recognise God, do not acknowledge His existence, and so do not avail themselves of his grace and mercy.

Tiger Woods seem to want to clear his head, put the past behind him and move forward to new and better times, but his religion is a hindrance.

Tiger Woods needs to jettison Buddhism because it is evident that it is not helping him, and embrace Christianity and garnish the benefits God has available for him.

Tiger Woods will find, if he embraced Christianity, that God will:

1. Completely pardon him for all his sins in accordance with his word, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)
2. Clear his foggy head, dispel the confusion, clear his mind and give him the necessary strength to move forward in keeping with his word, ""The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places." (Habakkuk 3:19)
3. Keep his mind clear, calm and fully composed to meet whatever challenge confronts him, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3)
4. Protect, comfort and give grace as needed to dispel all fear and will stand with him, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4)
5. Shower you with bountiful benefits, "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed." (Psalm 103:2-6)

The plain truth is that Tiger Woods, like so many men in our society, needs moral and spiritual transformation, the kind that comes by accepting Jesus Christ.

I can give no guarantee about life, but this I can assure you. If any man wants to change his existence for the better, wants to move forward into a new and better life and leave the old life behind him, then the acceptance of Jesus Christ and all He stands for will do it. Absolutely. Even if the man's name is Tiger Woods.

Enough said.
