Taste of the Lord

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

The church today is filled with the Word of God being preached and taught. This is a good thing. The Word is truth. When words come at us from many directions that seem good we need to have God's Word to confirm to us that what we are hearing is of God. You cannot recognize a lie unless you know what truth is.

Ps 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

We need God's Word as it will show to us the right way. Many times we think of things that sound good but because they do not line up with God's Word then we know that we cannot yield to them.

I am all for knowing the Word of God, yet, there is so much more. We can't stop at just knowing His Word. The devil knows God's Word also. What is wisdom? Wisdom is knowing what to do with God's Word. Our minds may be full of God's Word but we are still lost and undone. The Word needs to do something more than just fill our minds. I experienced years ago knowing a man that was full of the Word. I was very impressed at his knowledge. Yet one day when talking with him the Holy Spirit revealed to me that he did not know the one who wrote it. I asked him if he had ever accepted Jesus as his Savior. To his surprise he said to me "how did you know?" I told him that the Holy Spirit revealed this to me and then asked him if he would like to be born again. He said yes. He like many had a mind full of the Word but did not know the one who wrote it. He accepted Jesus that day and we both rejoiced.

We need to go deeper than just knowing God's Word. We can go to meetings after meetings and still leave empty even though we learned more of the Word. God has made available to us Hi Holy Spirit. God desires to have an intimate relationship with each one of us. He wants to be Lord of every part of our lives. He desires for us to walk in His presence and power. The Holy Spirit empowers the written word and causes it to become alive in our hearts. It takes it out of our head and drops it in our hearts and spirit where if becomes alive to us. We are to have the mind of Christ. Just because our mind is full of the Word does not make it to have the mind of Christ. The problem is that even though we know the Word, we can walk it in our flesh. It will not accomplish what God intends when we do this. I mentioned wisdom earlier as when God through the Holy Spirit leads the Word it then becomes powerful. He can and does give the Word that is needed for a person that causes things to happen in them. We can be religious and just spout the Word but without having God's mind it will not accomplish much good. In fact it often pushes people away instead.

The church fails miserably at taking people past just knowing the Word. The Bible tells us that we:

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

We have three minds that we can use the Word with. We can use our mind of flesh, the devils mind, or God's mind. This is what the scripture says that we are to "let" this mind be in us. It is a choice always.
We are to be crucified with Christ and have Him living in and through us.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

If we were truly crucified with Christ then He would be living in and through us. Our mind would be his mind as we were dead. We would have a very intimate relationship as He would be Lord of every part of us. We would be walking in the Spirit and would be led of Him daily. We would walk in His presence and be empowered by His Spirit. We would not only know God's Word but we would be walking it and seeing powerful things taking place. People would see us differently. They would see that we not only had a knowledge of God's Word but our lives would reflect the image of Christ. We would not have worries or fears or would be concerned about so many things that seem to weight Christians down. We would be single minded and just doing what God wanted for us to be doing because it would be Him and not us. Jesus himself said:

John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Jesus was our example. If He is the one living in and through us He would still be doing the same thing that He always did. He did what His Father told Him to do.

Hopefully it has now become more apparent that there is more to being a Christian than just having a head knowledge of the Bible. God desires to have an intimate relationship with us through His Holy Spirit. Being a Christian can be exciting and fun. When we hear the Holy Spirit tells us something and we follow this leading many fantastic things can take place. We never know what the Lord will come up with next. For clarification I need to say that there is the written Word "logos" and the spoken Word "rhema". God will and does give us the rhema word. This is a now word that we must become sensitive to and follow in obedience. Contrary to many people's belief God is not dead and He still speaks to people all the time through His Word (logos) and also through HIs Holy Spirit (rhema) to our minds and spirit. The interesting thing is that God knows the Word. He wrote it. Often He will speak to us a scripture that we never even read and we know somehow that it is real and true because the Spirit gives to us life.

2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

I entitled this writing as "Taste of the Lord", as once we get the Word out of our heads and down into our heart and spirit we will taste of the Lord. The other part of that scripture says "and see that He is good". Once we taste of the presence and power of God, we will SEE that He is good. I pray that people will dig deeper and cry out to have an intimate relationship with God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. You will see that He is good and find that allowing Him to be Lord of your life will make you more fulfilled than anything else that you have ever known. I also pray that the church will decide to bring the presence of the Holy Spirit into the meetings and allow Him to be in control. People will be healed, delivered, saved, and find what church is supposed to be like. When the church offers the presence of God to the people it will explode and God will do marvelous things for His kids. He has not been able too in so many churches as the Holy Spirit has not been allowed to be in charge and do the things that he wants and has been instructed by God to do. It is not church if the Holy Spirit is not in control. It is just a religious meeting of man. There is so much difference. I have found that when a meeting is full of the presence of the Lord that people seem to come from everywhere as they want to be in God's presence. I his presence there is joy. There is peace and answers. There is healing and deliverance. Why would anyone in their right mind not want to be in His presence? O taste of the Lord and See that He is good!!!
