Blooming In The Place You Are Planted

by Kathy Ledbetter
4/13/2015 / Devotionals

"You go nowhere by accident. Wherever you go, God is sending you there. Wherever you are, God has put you there. He has a purpose in your being there. Christ, who dwells in you, has something He wants to do through you, wherever you are. Believe this, and go in His grace, and love, and power. Amen!"

Benediction of Rev. Richard Halverson 1916-1995 Former Chaplain of the U.S.Senate

That is the send off that Rev. Halverson gave his congregation at the end of every service. What a beautiful way for a shepherd pastor to send his flock into the world.

Isn't it true that if we are believers, our steps are directed? Nothing is an accident. Things happen for a reason. There is a purpose to our life. Our happiness matters to God. The Potter molds each life to be a vessel that is functional. A vessel that will carry out the purpose it was created for. A vessel that has cracks is incapable of doing that thing it was created for. It is not able to carry water. It can be used for some other things but its primary purpose of carrying water will not be fulfilled.

So it is, when we fail to "bloom where we are planted" our purpose is lost while we pine for something else. We are losing precious time to do what God has placed us here for, if we are longing for something else. We are missing the opportunities in the here and now.

This is true with homes, clothes, cars, jobs. God will not move us, until His purpose is fulfilled. Until He sees us content and happy with the small things, He will not move us to the next level.

There is someone right where we are that needs to see in us or hear from us, what God desires them to see or hear. That purpose requires us to "wait" on Him. He will move when everything is in place. We may feel that we are "planted" in a place with thorns, weeds and inappropriate garden features. But that is exactly where God sees us blooming until He has things ready to replant us.

Thought For Today:

I am going to include a quote from a recent discussion I had. I cannot improve on it. It beautifully states what it means to be still, be happy and bloom.

"I need to start living now. Not waiting until "things" happen. Not holding out hope for things that are unsure. I know God has a plan. I have no idea what that plan is. I know He is working it all out and it will happen in His time. I think He is waiting on me to decide that I am happy in my life at this very moment. That I will live my life in this very moment and not be waiting for things to happen, before I decide to be happy and live. Stop worrying, start living and be happy! Bloom where I am planted!"

Well said! Some of the most beautiful blooms are in the most unexpected places. We each have a purpose. We each are where we are for a reason. Handpicked by our Heavenly Father and placed where we are with a purpose to fulfil.

Scripture For Today:

Proverbs 16:8

9 We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. (NLT)

Psalm 119:133

Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. (NKJV)

Prayer For Today:

Hello Father! It is so easy to desire what we don't have. We pray for contentment and peace where we are in our lives today. We desire to fulfill whatever purpose You have placed us here for. Give us joy while we bloom right here. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I celebrate fifty years married to the love of my life in January 2017. We have two beautiful daughters, son-in-laws and four precious grandchildren. I love to study God's word and write about His love for us.
