ENLARGE YOUR CAPACITY

by Tesh Njokanma
5/04/2015 / Christian Living

When you are thirsty and need to drink water, you have a variety of options. You can get a glass of water, a 25cl bottle of water, a 50cl bottle of water or a big 1 litre bottle of water. How thirsty you are and your consumption level determines the quantity you go for. Water is good, water is necessary, but you will be amazed that many people don't drink water because they don't like the taste. While some people can gulp down a 50cl bottle of water in one or two minutes, some people struggle to finish just a glass of water.

Just as you choose the quantity of water you consume, it's your choice the degree of God's power, Spirit and anointing in you. It's absolutely your own choice the measure of God's love you have in you. You can't say God just put a little love in my heart that's why it's hard for me to be nice to people. You can't also say God just gave me a small, minute, insignificant measure of His anointing that's why I can't heal the sick, raise the dead or do outstanding things for God. You can't blame God for who you are and what you do because God doesn't determine our capacity, we are the ones by our actions and attitude that determine how much of God we have in us, how much of God we allow work through us.

God is ever ready to fill us, help us and use us. God's love, power and anointing has no limits. We are the ones that have self-imposed limits, we are the ones who need to increase our capacity. 25cl is a limit. A limit to how much water a bottle can contain. If you want more water, then you need to increase the size of the bottle to say 50cl or 1 litre. There's no way a 25cl bottle can hold or contain water measuring 1 litre. The bottle's size has to increase; the bottle's capacity has to change.

In 2 Kings 4:1-7, God supernaturally blessed a widow who was in serious debt. It wasn't God or Elisha that determined the quantity of oil the widow received. She was the one by the number of jars she collected. As soon as all the jars she had collected were filled with oil, the oil stopped flowing. Meaning that if there were more jars, the oil would have continued to flow. No doubt about it, the woman was richly blessed. She was blessed to the point where she could pay off all her debts and have enough to live on. That in itself was a big financial breakthrough. But she could have had a much bigger breakthrough and miracle if she had more jars, if her capacity to receive was much more than what she had.

What about you? What is your capacity level? Are you in anyway limiting what God wants to do in your life, what God wants to give you? Your thinking influences your capacity. How you see yourself affects your capacity. How you see God also affects your capacity. How much of God's Word you know and truly believe in your heart will affect your capacity. The people you move around with certainly affect your capacity. What you say; your confessions can reduce or enlarge your capacity. Without even realising it, your past hurts and experiences also affect your capacity. In other words, there are so many things limiting our capacity; limiting our greatness.

In Isaiah 54:2 one of the most popular Bible verses on enlargement, we are told that if we want enlargement we must be ready to do the one thing many of us don't like doing we must be ready to stretch ourselves. "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes". Our "tent curtains" need to be stretched wide open for enlargement to come. One person's tent curtains that need to be stretched could be the person's level of giving. Another person's tent curtains could be the person's commitment to the things of God like prayer and Bible study. Some other person's tent curtains in desperate need of stretching could be the person's confessions. The person is forever seeing and saying negative things. For some others, their tent curtains may simply be to try something new like go for a course that will improve and increase their present skills. And for many of us, our tent curtains that need to be stretched is to create more room for people in our heart and stop focusing on only ourselves.

Enlargement isn't automatic. It requires some stretching on our part. Stretching brings about some form of pain, hardship and discomfort but it's a worthy price we must be ready to pay if we want to see enlargement in every area of our lives. We must be like a balloon that can be easily stretched. You never know how big a balloon can get until you stretch it, until you blow it up. You can never know the extent to which God can bless and use you until you are stretched. So go ahead and stretch yourself. Stretch your commitment, stretch your giving, stretch your mind; stretch your thinking, stretch your dreams and expectations. Stretch yourself to become a big balloon ready to burst with God's goodness and blessings, stretch your capacity for God's promise of increase and enlargement to be fulfilled in your life.
