Sensitivity

by PamFord Davis
6/02/2015 / Devotionals

God strengthens the body of Christ through an outpouring of His Spirit, equipping each member with at least one spiritual gift. (Romans 12:3-8/1 Corinthians 12:1-31/Ephesians 4:7-16/1 Peter 4:7-11).

The concept of individual giftedness and sensitivity to the Lord's leading may seem foolish or fanatical to some. Yet, it is essential in the body of Christ. I believe that spiritual sensitivity may be an unopened gift.

Likely, you have viewed commercials regarding people who have dental sensitivity problems. Hot, cold or sugary foods and beverages lead to nerve pain. Products are available to decrease sensitivity and its pain to sufferers. I have often wished I were not so sensitive to emotional pain.

I feel things deeply but what happens if a person loses sensitivity?

My brother-in-law lost sensitivity to cold through injuries in a traffic accident. In frigid sub-zero NY State winters, such loss could have proved deadly. As tragic has that would have been, the loss of spiritual sensitivity-'being past feeling' is far worse.

"This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, haven given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:17-24 NKJ)."
