John Doe-a Doer
by PamFord Davis
6/18/2015 / Devotionals
'My name is John Doe and I am a workaholic.'
I doubt workaholics attend group meetings or that they would confess to their addiction to work. Yet, the scenario is realistic; there are countless functioning workaholics.
Casual acquaintances are oblivious to the actual time of labor involved for those who handle the workload of two or three jobs. In addition, a full-blown workaholic is frequently the first to volunteer in his or her community.
Like an alcoholic, many workaholics live in denial until they hit bottom. The physical stress of overwork leads to heart attacks, strokes and nervous breakdowns. The lack of commitment to quantitative family time may result in divorce and broken homes.
There is hope for the workaholic. Change priorities
"Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you; for him hath God the Father sealed (John 6:27 KJV)."
