The Times Have Changed But God Hasn't

by Dr. Henderson Ward
7/08/2015 / Christian Living

There is no church on earth that has the authority to declare something as "good" when God, and the Bible, have declared it as evil. By the same token no individual, acting in any capacity, religious or otherwise, can represent God as giving approval to that which God abhors.

Let us be honest and tell it truthfully. God does not speak with a fork tongue, neither does He blitz us with fuzzy hints and subtle nuances. Weasel words and plausible deniability are not part of what God is about. Not now, never has been and never will.

That is not the God I know, neither is it the God of Holy Scripture.

God is the utmost moral authority, and every true believer not only understands this, but takes guidance from Him on all matters pertaining to morality.

When you buy a new motor car, the manufacturer gives you a proper handbook specifically for your car, so that you can maintain your car in pristine condition to function at its best. In fact, most manufacturers will base their warranty on compliance with the terms of that handbook.

Way back in time our maker, Almighty God, gave us the greatest living document imaginable, The Holy Bible, so that we may live our life to please him yes, but to live it to the full potential of its earthly sojourn.

No matter how much the world around us changes, you can be assured that God and the Holy Bible never will.

Yes, the language of the Bible can be modernised. It is true that language can become outdated and needs to be revised to suit current usage, but the divine principles and doctrines are not to be tampered with; they are applicable to all, for all time.

God speaks very clearly on this subject and tells us:

"For I am the LORD, I change not." (Malachi 3:6)

"God is not a man; he will not lie. God is not a human being; his decisions will not change. If he says he will do something, then he will do it. If he makes a promise, then he will do what he promised." (Numbers 23:19 Easy-to-Read Version)

"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." (Matthew 24:35)

The world comes up with lifestyles and mores that grabs the fancy of many, but that does not make what they are offering wholesome, morally acceptable or spiritually gratifying.

The United States Supreme Court declared on 26th June 2015 that same sex marriage is legal in all 50 states, and many believers find themselves in a quandary.

They should not be.

In the United States, and many other countries as well, many things have been legalised that are patently immoral and spiritually degrading. Things like prostitution, gambling, pornography and profanity.

In most countries in the world fornication and adultery are legal.

It was only recently that slavery was declared a crime against humanity; for many countries slavery was not only legal but highly desirable, and having slaves were regarded as a status symbol.

The WORLD is at EMNITY and war with God.

You CANNOT serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24)
You CANNOT love the world and love God (1 John 2:15)
You CANNOT be a true disciple (believer) and live contrary (1 John 2:6)

EVERYTHING God stands for is opposed by the world, and therefore it should surprise no one that all the moral and religious landmarks are being assaulted and destroyed one by one.

One of the alarming things that is currently very puzzling is that many in the church are being hoodwinked into accepting evil as being good; and among the number are some professional clergy.

Okay, we know that some of the professional clergy are false teachers and demons masquerading as servants of Jesus Christ (the numbers that have been defrocked and in prisons for their criminal acts bear testimony to this fact), but the clergy has no authority to contradict God's clear teaching.

When they do so, they are showing quite clearly that they are no longer part of the Christian church, has lost faith in God and their holy calling and are speaking and acting for themselves only.

They have backslide, lost their mandate to represent Jesus Christ and should do the decent thing and exit Christian ministry. The Apostle Paul tells us about these people in a must-read passage on apostasy (1 Timothy 4:1-2)

Believers everywhere need to come back to Christian basics and double check everything said and taught and verify if the Bible teaches it.

It is YOUR responsibility to accept truth and reject error.

Because some doctrine, or concept, or conjecture is popular, and taught by someone who appears sincere and charismatic, does not make it true and acceptable.

Matin Luther King Jr., once said, "Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."

People who are serious believers do not allow anyone to cloud their vision of Almighty God, nor allow themselves to be diverted from the path God has set them by lack of care and diligence.

Serious believers do what the Bereans did, even with so mighty a stalwart preacher and teacher as the Apostle Paul, as told to us here:

"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." (Acts 17:11)

So because God does not change, what he requires of us are clearly spelled out in the Bible, and faithful teachers and preachers constantly remind us, so that we keep along the true path.

It is OUR responsibility therefore:

1. To walk in the light that God has shed on our pathway and not let the world delude us in doing otherwise, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1:7).

2. To look after our beliefs and doctrines, have an uncorrupted mind, and make sure we are standing on the solid Word of God, and not the popular opinions of others, "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." (1 Corinthians 10:12)

3. To take great care of our Christian heritage, the holy faith that is entrusted to us, that our children and grand-children may benefit and that we might pass it on to future generations, "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude 1:3)

Because God does not change, He expects us to be somewhat like him, in that we are not to be tossed about by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14), but hold fast to our faith and trust him fully and stand firm; just like the Apostle Paul, "...But none of these things moved me." (Acts 20:24)

Enough said.
