From the Heart- Racism's Ugly Truth

by Jennifer Champion
7/10/2015 / Christian Living

Removing the Confederate flag will not stop racism. This post is not about the flag itself because honestly, I could care less. I am from the south but I'm not going to get up in arms over this issue because there is a much deeper issue at hand. The only way racism will stop is by removing it from the heart. It must be removed and replaced with love. Racism is nothing new and it is not just between blacks and whites.

The Jews and Samaritan's hated each other for hundreds of years but in just a short period of time, the love of Christ changed the hearts of these people. In John 4, Jesus and his disciples entered Samaria. They were tired and hungry after having walked the long trip from Jerusalem. Jesus rested at Jacob's Well and sent his disciples to get food in a nearby village.

While there, a Samaritan woman came to draw water at the well. Jesus is a Jew and she a Samaritan. The conversation began and he revealed things to her that caused her to be amazed and she ran and told others. The Samaritans that were told these things by this woman were excited and asked Jesus to stay with them. He stayed for two days.

Jesus was able to break the barrier of hatred and racism in about an hour of talking to this woman. He broke it down so much that he was invited to stay a while. He did what man hadn't been able to do in hundreds of years. The simple thing is that nothing has changed today. All it takes to stop racism is to bring Jesus into the heart.

So, take down your flags and make people pull up their pants. Change the landscape and do whatever you want to make it "look" better to the world but in the end, it will not work. It hasn't worked yet and it never will until Jesus is welcomed.
