One God, a variety of forms

by Michael Hume
8/29/2015 / Christian Living

"God said to Moses , "I AM WHO I AM", Exodus 3:14. God is who He is. He can't be changed and even if there are lies about Him, He still is who He is. God always lives in the eternal present.

Isaiah writes of God's different forms. "To us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6. He seems to be referring to Jesus as the child and son, and then some forms of God. Here's my view of each form.

Wonderful Counsellor.
Jesus often spoke of the Holy Spirit as the Counsellor. He said, "Unless I go away, the Counsellor will not come to you." John 16:7. The Holy Spirit lives within you, and He does guide you and Help you. He is always within you as a friend. He is God within you like a rock. Jesus said to Peter, "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." God within you makes you like a rock, unshakeable, and immovable.

Mighty God.
God is a Mighty God, and He can appear like a brilliant sun. He is much higher than all rule and authority on earth, and of hell. God raised Jesus and "Seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named." It is normal and easy for Him to do miracles. This is the God who created the universe and all in it. He made man, animals, birds etc.. He was with Moses parting the Red Sea for the Israelites, and He did miracles with Elijah, Jesus and the apostles.

Everlasting Father
Jesus often spoke of God as His Father. Jesus prayed to Him, and taught his disciples to do the same. He is a royal parent, a great King, and the Father of all living people. He desperately wants all His prodigal children to return to Him and live with Him to all eternity. He can appear old "His head and hair were white like wool." Revelation 1:14. There can be more than one form of God at once. God said "I am the Living One, I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever." Revelation 1;18. it seems to me that this is both God the Father and Jesus, since we know that it was Jesus who died and is alive forever. Nothing is impossible with God, and there is more overlap here since God the Father can be Almighty God too.

Prince of Peace
God is a King of Peace and because Jesus is His Son, that makes him the Prince of Peace. When Jesus was with some disciples, and Moses and Elijah, a bright cloud covered them and God's voice from the cloud said "This is my Son whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Matthew 17:5. John writes of jesus as God when he says That "There are many other things that Jesus did: if every one of them were written down, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Jesus is also God and as God has done limitless things.

God is who He wants to be. He is a Friend and no words can express His true worth. Always with you, trustworthy, helpful, a prayer away. Or a spoken word will bring Him into action.
