The Word

by Michael Hume
8/30/2015 / Christian Living

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1."The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth." John 1:14. Jesus, became flesh and is the Word and is God.

The Whole Bible is God, or Jesus in word form. The entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation contains Gods word, and is God. It is an exceptional book and the purest one. "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." 2Timothy 3:16. All of the word is God-breathed. It is an active book made alive by the Holy Spirit in the present. It is all God-inspired, so all the words, grammar, and punctuation originally come from God.

Jesus said "I am the bread of life." John 6:48. He further stated "I am the living bread which came down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die." John 6:51. Jesus is saying broadly that if anyone accepts His teaching in the New Testament and the entire Bible, he will live forever. That also includes walking with God daily, in prayer and other graces of God. Reading and digesting the Bible is like eating bread, the living bread.

"The word is near you, it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it." Deuteronomy 30:14. Scripture is in your heart because you have read the Bible many times and have deeply absorbed the specific, and personal phrases He has spoken to you. When you speak out Bible phrases, it sends God out to yourself so that you can obey God. Or into your immediate world, or to anywhere God wants it sent, to create life.

It is useful to read the whole Bible many times through, even the bits which seem less meaningful to you since it is all good and will give you a breadth of understanding, full protection and potentially all the firepower there is in the word. You never know what verse the Holy Spirit will bring to your mind at any given moment to help you.

The more you 'eat' or read the Bible the more Jesus-like you become. That is one way you can help God by helping yourself. It is only natural to want to know your heavenly Father well and one way is by Bible reading.
