Signs Of Greed For Gain.

by Olawale Ogunsola
9/05/2015 / Christian Living

Greed is a wrongdoing that is very costly. The following verses are good reference points:
"Such are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust gain; it takes away the life of its possessors." Proverbs 1:19. NLT.
"He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house." NKJV.

These and other troubles await anyone who is greedy for unjust gain. Do you want any of them to befall you? If your answer is "No!", then you need to examine yourself to know whether or not you are greedy. Self.examination is the beginning of self.knowledge; self.knowledge is the beginning of self-correction which leads to self.improvement.

Your question should now be "Am I greedy for gain?"

Let me highlight some points that can be of help to know your true status.

1. Do you always think, plan and seek only what you can derive from any given opportunity or assignments? Do you think nothing should be done without maximizing the gain? You may be one of those who never do anything for the Lord or in the name of the Lord. You may be someone who does not love anybody enough to offer a free service to him.

This is a sign of greed.

2. Do you pursue gain? If there is nothing you are not ready to sacrifice so as to maximize benefits from somebody or something, then watch it. In many cases, you are also in a hurry to derive these benefits.

Do you run after such?

When a little delay or waiting for a certain time become a language you do not understand or speak. If you find it difficult to reap any benefits at a later date, watch, it is a sign of greed for gain. Your motto then is "I will run after him/it!"

3. Do you love lying? Are you good at painting an event in different colours? Is it easy for you to "cook up" lies for selfish reasons?

A servant of Prophet Elisha whose name was Gehazi lied to extract some gifts from Naaman who visited the Prophet to be healed of leprosy.

The lie?

He said, "My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments." 2 Kings 5:22.

Do you think of lies that can bring you gains in the name of somebody? It is a sign of greed!

4. Do you not care to soil the reputation of another person because of what you want to gain?

In Gehazi's lie above, he did not care about Naaman's possible negative impression about Elisha. Do you know that Naaman may see the man of God as an inconsistent person? He had pleaded that Elisha should take gifts which he refused. Now, he sent to request for less than what had been offered him.

If you can see any (or all) of the above signs in your lifestyle, then you are greedy for gain and you should repent today. Do not fail to put on a new leaf. Otherwise, you may bring evil on yourself and to your house.
Repent today, tomorrow may be late.
Stay blessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon.
Note.
