Parishioners Share Their Favorite Bible Verses

A church in a large metropolitan city hosted regular fellowship suppers every Monday.

Each supper included a spirited discussion of spiritual matters. For one supper, Pastor Carlos announced attendees would be permitted to read their favorite Bible verse or passage. "You will have an opportunity to let others know why you are excited about being a Christian," said Pastor Carlos.

"My favorite Bible verse is John 3:16," said Cindy. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

"My favorite verse is Genesis 1:1," announced Clifford. "It shows the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were all active in Creation."

"My favorite verse is Micah 6:8," stated Cameo. "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doeth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

Cameo said, "The verse shows the responsibilities we all have to live in the proper way before God."

"My favorite passage is Mark 12:29-31," remarked Crawford. "And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."

Christopher's favorite Scripture was the longest, "Revelation 22:1-5, "And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever."

"That's from the last chapter of the Bible," Christopher observed, "And it means as Christian believers we win. But I do have one question, Pastor."

What's your question?" asked Pastor Carlos.

"How long is forever?"

"Forever is longer than all of us could ever calculate! There will never be an end to eternity!"
