Do You Surrender?

by Annagail Lynes
10/02/2015 / Devotionals

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV).

Most of the time we only hear the second verse preached.

We are taught to cast our cares on Him and not to pick them back up. We are told it is unbelief if we do.

Only how many times have you given something over to God only to take it back again? I know I have thousands, if not, millions of times.

We keep rehearsing the problem over and over in our heads, trying to figure out the solution. We try to reason how God could come through for usor if He will at all.

Then we remember this Scripture.

We cast our care again, and the cycle begins again.

I submit to you that the reason we do this is because we didn't read the verse before it, which tells us to humble ourselves under the mighty Hand of God.

For me, this is the act of surrendering to God, of coming to the end of ourselves and knowing that without God, we are in trouble. It is surrendering our will to His no matter what.

It is when we get to that place of brokenness, of total surrender, that we able to cast our cares, knowing that whatever God's will is will be better than we could have come up with.

There is something amazingly about coming to that place of surrender, total and complete surrender to God.

We need to make this not a once-in-awhile practice. We must choose to surrender our will to His every hour, every minute, every second of every day.

Remember God's plans for us are always better than ours. His plans are blessed, not ours.

Make surrendering to God a daily practice, starting today.
