Hot Or Lukewarm?

by Annagail Lynes
11/02/2015 / Devotionals

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarmneither hot nor coldI am about to spit you out of my mouth. - Revelation 3:15-16

We tend to live a status-quo life. Never venturing out of our comfort zone. We go to work. We take care of the kids. We go to parties and events. We go to church, even volunteer in the nursery or to teach Sunday school.

Winning souls for Christ is not a priority and either is changing the world, making an impact on the world through the gifts God has given us.

We pray when someone brings up a request or when we are in crisis, but we aren't prayer warriors.

We have one foot in the church, and one step out of it. We are lukewarm at best about our faith.

God has called us to be hot about it. We need to be sold-out to Christ. When you truly understand what Jesus did for us, how He became sin for us to save us from eternal damnation, you want to tell everyone. You want to spread the Gospel and impact the world for Christ with your talents and gifts.

We are not called to be lukewarm. We are called to be on fire for God, to be consumed with His will and purpose for our lives, to be passionate about being a Christ follower.

We are afraid to stand up for the Gospel because it has been painted as bad and foolish in the media. We are afraid to stand up for the Truth for fear people won't like us, that people will criticize us and tell us to shut up.

But what if like Esther, you have come to this position for such a time as this? What if God wants to do something extraordinary with your life? What if He wants to use you to impact your community, maybe even the world?

If you have lost the passion for God, lost that desire to see the lost saved and the stuck come out of bondage, don't despair. Ask God to restore it to you.

God hasn't called us to be lukewarm Christians. He has called us to be hot and on fire.

What can you do today to step up your game when it comes to your faith?
