Are You Righteous?

by Annagail Lynes

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. - 2 Corinthians 3:6

I marvel at how many Christians are still striving to obey every letter of the law--the Ten Commandments, all the ordiances in the Bible.

It is impossible for us as mere human beings to obey the law. It is the reason Jesus had to come to Earth.

God didn't give the law to be followed. He gave the law to show us how sinful we are, to show us our need for a Savior.

We have made the law a way to be righteous in the sight of God.

Only God has made it clear that it is only by the Sacrifice of Jesus that we become righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21).

God knew that we would break the law by not keeping the Sabbath, not putting Him first in our lives, lying, coverting, adultry.

James 2:10 tells us that if we break one commandment, we have broken them all.

God send Jesus to Earth for that reason. Jesus fulfilled our part of the covenant by living a sinless life as a human being while still being Deity and then becoming sin for us and dying on the Cross in our place.

God punished Jesus on that Cross. He poured out His wrath on Jesus for our sins--every sin we would ever commit.

Jesus became sin. He took the punishment that should have been ours.

Why? So that we could accept Christ and have right standing with God.

We should strive to live good, peaceful lives, but our salvation, our right standing with God, comes from Jesus' Sacrifice and that Sacrifice alone.

As long as that Sacrifice is acceptable to God--which it always will be--then we will never be judged for our sins again if we accept Christ.

Wow!

Isn't that awesome?
