Call Waiting

I used to get frequent callers when I worked as a mid-day Disc Jockey in radio. In the dark ages of AM radio, and long before call-waiting at home, I used to put my callers on hold. They waited (I'm not sure how patiently) at the other end of the line until I could take their calls. Most of us have had people put us on hold for what seemed like forever; our tempers flare as we count the minutes.

God does not lose his temper; yet, He has to wonder why we fail to accept His calls.

Samuel served Eli in the temple; at an early age, the LORD God placed a call upon his life. The lad offered the appropriate response.

"And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, 'Here I am, for you did call me.' Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, 'Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, 'Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.' So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, 'Samuel! Samuel!' And Samuel answered, 'Speak, for Your servant hears (1 Samuel 3:8-10 NKJ)."
